The Hyper Heli-Tails[1] (ハイスピードヘリテイル[2] Haisupīdoheriteiru?, lit. "High Speed Helitail") is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Available only to Miles "Tails" Prower, obtaining this power-up allows Tails to fly through midair for a few seconds. It is the equivalent of Sonic's Rocket Shoes.
Description
The monitors with the Hyper Heli-Tails feature an image of Tails flying through the air with orange sparkles released in his wake on their screens.
Overview
In Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble, when opening a monitor containing the Hyper Heli-Tails, Tails will immediately begin flying around in midair with his twin-tails, albeit at a much faster pace that with his Heli-Tails technique. At the same time, an upbeat background music can be heard. While flying around using the Hyper Heli-Tails, the player must use to steer Tails. With it, the player can gain or lose altitude or change direction. However, controlling Tails while under the influence of the Hyper Heli-Tails can be tough as upward rising and descent can be rather quick while turning in the opposite direction can be strenuous.
After using the Hyper Heli-Tails for a short while, its effects will disappear and Tails will fall down to the ground. Also, if the player bumps into a hazard, the Hyper Heli-Tails is immediately negated. Also, since Sonic cannot use the Hyper Heli-Tails, its monitors are replaced with either Rocket Shoes or Jet Boards (Robotnik Winter Zone only) in his playthrough.
The Hyper Heli-Tails monitors can be found in Tails' playthrough of Great Turquoise Zone, Sunset Park Zone and Robotnik Winter Zone. Also, in Atomic Destroyer Zone Act 3, Tails will come across a single Hyper Heli-Tails monitor at the beginning of the Act that the player has to use to proceed. While flying around thanks to the Hyper Heli-Tails however, Metal Sonic will suddenly start following Tails and hit him from behind, making the player lose the Hyper Heli-Tails and initiating a duel with Metal Sonic.
