You may be looking for the human-like descendants of humans; see Overlanders.

Humans are a species that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. They are the ancestors of both the Mobians and the Overlanders and were the former dominant species on the planet Mobius while it was still known as Earth. They also can be found inhabiting on higher planes of reality. In the Prime Zone, the humans survived to the present day, with small pockets of their civilizations being rediscovered as the Second Robotnik War began.

Humans are commonly confused as Overlanders, however the two species have fundamental differences. While humans possess five fingers, their mutated Overlander counterparts only have four. Unlike the Overlanders, humans are more accepting of other cultures and species and do not share the xenophobic sentiments toward Mobians that many Overlanders have.[1]

The human population in Station Square had maintained an isolationist policy for thousands of years, as they had become completely self-sufficient. All of this changed when representatives from the Kingdom of Acorn, including Sally Acorn and the Knothole Freedom Fighters, arrived in Station Square to warn them of Dr. Eggman's schemes to destroy their city with the water beast Chaos.[2]

Intelligence[]

In terms of intelligence, the humans did not display any noteworthy ability to process information, create new, and advance technology, or adapt to new concepts as effectively as the Mobians and the Overlanders. They relied on A.I.s to do the computing for them but they did not have the power to stop their A.I.s from acting on their own accord.

Physicals[]

Unlike their combat-oriented descendants, the Mobians and the Overlanders, whom that had a Great War with each other, the humans have displayed no similar physical equivalent and are generally treated as less capable. As an example, a group of G.U.N. soldiers tried to arrest Sonic the Hedgehog during the comic's Sonic Adventure 2 adaption[3] but were dealt with by Sonic as easy as it is to run for him. Then after, the President would asked for assistance from Sonic and his Freedom Fighters for various missions over Station Square's military and keep the morally questionable Rouge the Bat close at hand.

As a comparison to the overlanders, the overlander known as Dr. Ivo Robotnik was able to fight Sonic one-on-one before his demise and brought Sonic to exhaustion.[4] His alternate version successor, Dr. Eggman, would continue to show superior combat capabilities above the G.U.N. soldiers off and on as time went on.[5][6]

Resources[]

During their time, the humans were able to keep themselves hidden during planet Mobius' evolution for several millenniums after the Xorda's Attack on Earth. They were left unbothered by the Ancient Walkers and had escaped the eyes of Mammoth Mogul during his ancient attempts to takeover the planet. This isolation had left them underprepared when Dr. Eggman and his Eggman Empire came across them as he was tracking down and uncover ancient secrets hidden around Station Square. Station Square's own A.I.'s commuting system would realize Dr. Eggman was too much of a threat to handle for the humans and panically set off their nukes at him.[7]

Despite their A.I.'s assessment, the humans were likely in a better position to manage their states than the recovering Kingdom of Acorn, who were Dr. Eggman's main focus and only had the Freedom Fighters to rely on.

Unlike humans in the main story, the humans of the Archie Zone presented themselves similar to 'real world' humans with cartoonish mannerisms and would never physically fight one another. However, Sonic the Hedgehog could find himself at the human's mercy with their ability to create the plot. As the avatars of Archie Comics' staff, they were free to control the plot to create many gags with Sonic and his cast. Sonic's rebellious attitude was sometimes asking for it, as he once thought lowly of a hardworking, digital production artist and in response, the artist discombobulated Sonic into non-objective shapes. While the humans came off as invincible in this regard, the main purpose for their abilities were to tell stories in service of the ongoing narrative in their own artistic way.

Sonic Live![]

Humans, from Sonic Live!.

Main article: Archie Sonic Live!

In an unknown, higher plane of existence, above perhaps even the Chaos Force, there exists humans. Nothing is known about this reality but they use remote controllers on CRTs to play their video games without a video game console. The reality oddly views Sonic the Hedgehog as a video game character, despite the comic's prior fourth wall material had characters acknowledged themselves as comic book characters.

During a battle with Dr. Robotnik, Sonic found himself interacting with two of the reality's humans, Steve and Jessie, who knew of him and were his fans. Together, they went on a small adventure in a lower plane of existence and then afterwards, the children were sent home. Returning to their CRT, they excitedly looked forward to follow more of Sonic's adventures from their reality.

Survivors of the Xorda Attack[]

Main Article: Xorda Attack on Earth

During the Xorda's attack on Earth thousands of years ago, a passenger jet was struck and crash landed into the side of a mountain. The surviving passengers found themselves seeking refuge in the mountain's deep caves. Due to the depth of the caves, these humans were spared the de-evolution process that befell the Overlanders, as the Gene Bombs effects could not reach them.[8]

Building a Society[]

With their new location completely isolated, the survivors began to build a new home for themselves within this hidden sanctuary. Beginning with basics such as farms to produce food and shelters to stay in, the humans used their technological knowledge to gradually expand their community.[8]

Recent Activities[]

Station Square itself is quite large, and encompasses over 73 million citizens. They have since expanded from their secured city with the immigration of the Overlanders from Robotropolis and created the United Federation, which is comprised of all human and overlander settlements and inhabited areas on Mobius, with Central City as the capital.[8][9][10]
