Hover[1][2] is a move that appears in the Sonic Boom series. It is used exclusively by Miles "Tails" Prower. When performing this technique, Tails uses his signature twin-tails to slow his descend through midair.
Description[]
When performing Hover, Tails twirls his twin tails around like rotary blades while in mid-jump, thus creating a lift that lets him slowly descend from his fall through the air like a helicopter. In gameplay, this ability enables the player to glide through midair and across wide gaps. On its own, Hover cannot be used to gain altitude. However, by hovering within the air currents from Tails Vents, Tails can ride on the wind, allowing the player to move in the direction of the air current, including upward.
