Plot[]
The plot begins with Sonic having fainted from the ground after an explosion, hearing voices - from Rebel Rouge, Dr. Deep, Squad Commander Red and Gnarly Knuckles - and running from his allies. After getting up, his heart sinks as soon as he looks at the size of Grim Big, before the robot deploys more Froggy bombs at him, telling everyone to scatter. The robot's reign of terror continues, hitting an Eggforcer and Denizen 1998 with more Froggy bombs, but Sonic takes care of one of them and saves the New Yoke City cat from Grim Big's tail attack. More Froggy Bombs target and hit the Mothership, breaking down the cannons and engulfing the ship into flames. Mr. Dr. Eggman calls for assistance, only for Grim Birdies to patrol the area. Dr. Done-It - controlling the Yolkomotive, takes them down. Nine furiously commands his Grim Robots to take out the ships. Meanwhile, Grim Big takes out Dr. Babble and Dr. Deep easily before focusing on Sonic. Dr. Don't tries to distract it but fails to do so, retreating before getting blasted by Froggy bombs. The tail attacks Sonic and his allies, angering the former, but after being restrained by Rebel, goes for the giant robot, only to get hit by the tail again. Nine summons four Grim Sonics in an attempt to finish him off.
While Sonic continues dodging attacks and delivering fighting talk to Nine, Gnarly, Hangry and Prim climb up the Citadel's ledge and observe the action for a brief moment before creeping their way up. Nine after seeing enough, extracts energy from the Paradox Energy Beam, fluctuating the dome and increasing its decay. At the same time, Grim Big's energy powers down, prompting Knucks to get to its base. He hits it, with pride; meanwhile Nine shooting lasers so large that the ground cracks widely, almost dropping Sonic in, until a Grim Sonic nudges him through the crevasse and attacks him while he falls. He crashes to the ground and is then tossed into a heap of robot parts. With Sonic 'finished', Nine uses more energy to revive Grim Big, causing Knucks and Dr. Babble to fly off. It deploys more Froggy bombs, hitting Jack. Dr. Deep calls for the Mothership, in which the Eggforcers trying to repair the cannons are taken out by Grim Birdies, prompting the Kraken and Yolkomotive to take action against them. As the war between them continues, below the ground, Sonic is still being bullied by a Grim Sonic before Shadow hits the robot and stands in front of him. Shadow informs him about being held back by Nine's 'massive army' via his Alpha Grim Robots, and lamenting the fact that, since he lost the green Chaos Emerald in the Void's "eternity of darkness," he could not escape earlier than this by teleporting.
The two hedgehogs agree to work together and take out Grim Sonics. Meanwhile, the Scavengers continue their stealth plan, until they spot a Grim Birdie, leaving them to work out how to get past without being spotted. Sonic and Shadow continue their battle with the Grim Robots, which leads to the large crack. Eventually, they defeat the robots and send them through it. Sonic celebrates, before Shadow reveals that Nine can generate an endless army of Alphas, before pointing that the Alphas are the main threat. They soon get involved in a heated argument. Meanwhile, the Grim Birdies send the Kraken to critical damage, severely affecting its thrusters and forcing the two pink hedgehogs on-board to evacuate and go after the Grim Birdies, defeating them with Thorn and Birdie eventually helping out. However, the Kraken crashes and explodes. Rusty thanks Thorn for her effort, but is prompted by a cornered Mr. Dr. Eggman, forcing them to start attacking more Grim robots. Soon, the Yolkomotive comes to their aid and defeats more Grim Birdies patrolling the Mothership's cannons. Dr. Done-It gives the all clear for Mr. Dr. Eggman to restart work on the cannons.
Meanwhile, Grim Big continues its reign of terror by destroying more of the battleground, at one moment causing Jack to get trapped by a group of crystals, forcing Red to help out successfully. Soon, the Mothership's cannons are completely repaired, pleasing Mr. Dr. Eggman and prompting Nine to command his Grim Troopers to destroy the Mothership, but it's too late, as the Mothership knocks out Grim Big with a humongous laser shot, causing celebration for Sonic and his allies. Nine furiously extracts more power from the Paradox Energy Beam - noticing the dome shrinking while doing so - and takes out the Mothership himself, the Chaos Council getting blasted while they evacuate, with Dr. Deep checking on Mr. Dr. Eggman. Nine soon realizes about the shrinking dome, causing him to facepalm.
Sonic also realizes that the dome shrinks every time Nine extracts Power, and wants to pass the information to him as well as his allies. Meanwhile, Nine spots the three Scavengers climbing up the Citadel and forces them off, to the disappointment of Rebel. Sonic gathers his allies round and prompts them to listen to his plan, but before long, Nine gathers more Prism Energy, but stops to try and protect the dome. Sonic fight talks back to him, but Nine responds by summoning and cloning his Alpha Grim Robots to take on Sonic and his allies, with Nine's robots eventually taking out the Yolkomotive near the Citadel; and the Grim Sonics - plus the Alpha - taking out Shadow, to Sonic's despair. Sonic helplessly watches the rest of his allies lose to the Grim Bots, before defeating some Grim Bots of his own and coming to Nine, the two glaring at one another before starting a fight with each other, the episode cuts to black before they hit each other.
Regional differences[]
- While Shadow recalls the time being held back by Nine's army, he claims that, "smashing hordes of Sonics isn't the worst thing in the world." This is rewritten in the Malay dub as: "It was also pleasant breaking these Sonic robots."
- Gnarly Knuckles' suggestion on getting "80 feet of vine" is converted to metric of various lengths:
- Basque, Galician, Greek and Romanian: 25 meters
- Danish, French, Hungarian and Polish: 20 meters
- Indonesian, Italian, Mandarin Chinese, Swedish and Vietnamese: 24 meters
- Norwegian: 8 meters
- No units are specified in the Finnish, German, Japanese, Korean, Malay, European Spanish, Latin Spanish, Tagalog and Turkish dubs.
- After being saved by Thorn Rose, Black Rose cheers with the phrase, "By Poseidon's soggy beard!". This is replaced in the Mandarin Chinese dub as: 真是千鈞一髮,我們運氣真好!("What a matter of life and death, and we got lucky!")。
- In the Italian dub, Dr. Done-It cries for his "delicious candy" instead of "butterscotch candy" upon the destruction of Yoke HQ.
- Upon the destruction of Yoke HQ, Dr. Babble's cry is partially intelligible in the Mandarin Chinese dub, calling out "...毁了!" ("... is gone!").
- After the Yoke HQ is destroyed, Mr. Dr. Eggman vows, "Mark my words, we're going to melt that fox." This is replaced in the Japanese dub as: "I'll never forgive that fox, no matter what."

Trivia[]
- A sword-fighting scene where Black Rose takes down two Grim Rouges is a parody of a similar scene featuring Jackie Chan in the 1988 Hong Kong film Police Story 2.
- When Sonic holds his head, it's reused/reanimated footage from "Shattered", when he says "That's a sonic boom of a headache.".
Errors[]
- During the scene when Sonic is outlining his plan, Shadow disappears, despite him being right next to him in the previous scene.
