Hip Drop is a technique performed by Rouge the Bat and Cream the Rabbit. It first appeared in Sonic Adventure 2 and in its remake, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, as one of Rouge's special move, and later reappeared in Sonic Advance 2 and Sonic Advance 3 as one of Cream's moves. When performing this technique, the user drops her entire body down to the ground.

Description

When performing the Hip Drop, the user first jumps into mid-air, where she at the height of her jump raises both her legs up, while pointing her pelvic cavity directly down. The user then drops her entire body directly down on the ground (gluteal region first) while raising her legs up in the process.

Game appearances

Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle

The Hip Drop first appeared in Sonic Adventure 2 and its remake Sonic Adventure 2: Battle where it is used by Rouge. When performing Hip Drop in this game, Rouge calls out the move's name and strike the ground. In these games, it is only performed by Rouge as a boss of the Hero story, and can only be performed by the player when playing as Rouge in the games' two-player mode.

Using Hip Drop in these games triggers an earthquake throughout the area that affects the opposing opponent wherever they may be. While the opponents will not lose Rings when affected by Hip Drop, it will cause them to trip and be left dazed for a few seconds. If Hip Drop is performed while the opponents are climbing they will be knocked off the walls, but if performed while the opponents are gliding or in the middle of a jump, it will have no effect.

To perform Hip Drop in two-player mode, the player must press the Action Button on the ground after collecting 20 Rings. To use it again, the player has to collect another 20 Rings. In Story Mode, Rouge will begin performing the Hip Drop after her health has been reduced to half and serves as her close-range attack when the player is close.

Sonic Advance 2

The Hip Drop appeared again in Sonic Advance 2, where it served as Cream the Rabbit's downward Mid-Air Trick Action and can be used to damage enemies. In the game, it is the only one of Cream's Trick Actions that can damage enemies. To perform the Hip Drop in gameplay, the player has to press RBUTTONDSSNNdisco while pressing down on Controlpadds after Cream has been launched into the air through Springs, Ramps or other gimmicks.

Sonic Advance 3

The Hip Drop reappeared in Sonic Advance 3 as one of Cream the Rabbit's actions while jumping. In this game, its performance and mechanics are the same as in Sonic Advance 2. To let Cream perform Hip Drop in gameplay, she must have Amy Rose as her partner. Should the player control Cream when playing with this pair, the player can perform the Hip Drop by pressing GameboyB while pressing downward on Controlpadds during a jump.
