Hip Drop is a technique performed by Rouge the Bat and Cream the Rabbit. It first appeared in Sonic Adventure 2 and in its remake, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, as one of Rouge's special move, and later reappeared in Sonic Advance 2 and Sonic Advance 3 as one of Cream's moves. When performing this technique, the user drops her entire body down to the ground.

Description

When performing the Hip Drop, the user first jumps into mid-air, where she at the height of her jump raises both her legs up, while pointing her pelvic cavity directly down. The user then drops her entire body directly down while raising her legs up in the process, before landing on the ground, gluteal region first.

Game Appearances

Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle

The Hip Drop first appeared in Sonic Adventure 2 and later in its remake Sonic Adventure 2: Battle where it was only used by Rouge the Bat. In the 1p Play mode of the game, it is used during Rouge's battle with Knuckles the Echidna on board the Space Colony ARK, but only as a boss in the Hero story. Outside of that, this is one of the techniques Rouge cannot perform in the gameplay of Story Mode, the other being Black Wave. However, she can perform it in the games' two-player mode, but only when she has gathered enough Rings.

In Story Mode, Rouge will begin performing the Hip Drop after her health has been reduced to half. It serves as Rouge's close range attack when the player is just next to her.

In the games' two-player mode, where two players races each other in a hunt to collect most Emerald Shards, the player controlling Rouge is able to execute the Hip Drop. In order to perform the Hip Drop, the player must collect at least 20 Rings. Once the player has collected enough Rings, the Hip Drop can be performed freely. When performing the Hip Drop, Rouge shouts "Hip Drop", before striking the ground. The tremor caused by the Hip Drop will then cover the entire stage, striking the opposing player's character wherever he/she may be. Though the opposing player's character does not take damage from the Hip Drop, it will cause him/her to trip and be left dazed for a few seconds. If the opponents are climbing while the Hip Drop is performed, they will be knocked off the walls. However, if the opponents are gliding or in the middle of a jump while the Hip Drop is performed, it will have no effect.

Sonic Advance 2

The Hip Drop appeared again in Sonic Advance 2, where it served as Cream the Rabbit's downward Mid-Air Trick Action and can be used to damage enemies. In the game, it is the only one of Cream's Trick Actions that can damage enemies. To perform the Hip Drop in gameplay, the player has to press RBUTTONDSSNNdisco while pressing downward on Controlpadds after Cream has been launched into the air through Springs, Ramps or other gimmicks.

Sonic Advance 3

The Hip Drop reappeared in Sonic Advance 3 as one of Cream the Rabbit's actions while jumping. In this game, its performance and mechanics are the same as in Sonic Advance 2. In order to let Cream perform Hip Drop in gameplay, she must have Amy Rose as her partner. Should the player control Cream when playing with this pair, the player can perform the Hip Drop by pressing GameboyB while pressing downward on Controlpadds during a jump.
