Hill Top is the fifth world in Sonic Speed Simulator. This world is a re-imagination of Hill Top Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It can be unlocked after the playable character buys the world for 1,000,000 Rings. The fifth questline is located here, which is used to unlock Blaze the Cat as a playable character. The Zone currently features events which can be completed to unlock Marine the Raccoon, Neo Metal Sonic, and Toy Maker Tails as playable characters and the Neo Metal Star Hoverboard as a equippable mount.

Description[]

Hill Top Zone is a mountainous region high above the clouds. The background features a clean light blue sky, various cyan mountains with green peaks, a few orange canyons, and a thick layer of clouds at the bottom. Tall, cyan rock structures similarly dominate the traversable landscape, and the travelable areas are hilly and full of gulfs. The soil here is as well made of cyan stones with geometrical patterns on them, with a few arts having a checkered pattern. The surface of Hill Top is as well covered by lime grass with green lines and some flowers. There are also various tall pine trees decorating the Zone. There are as well several long and slightly twisted parallel Grind Rails, stylized as railroad tracks, that stretch around the entire world on top of tall wooden scaffolds. Hill Top is as well characterized by its various lava falls, lava rivers and lava lakes. There are also small cave sections with burned and black rocky bases holding lakes full of lava.

Gameplay[]

Hill Top is an open and free-roaming level with plenty of Spikers, Rexons, and Gohlas throughout. There are several loops and other structures here for the player to use in order to perform acrobatic movements. There are also Grind Rails, although these gimmicks are placed so high up in Green Hill's upper sections that reaching them require expert navigation and knowledge of the world's platforms and structures. However, there are Jump Panels that can help the player cross gaps. There are also rock formations around Hill Top in the shape of ramps that can launch the playable character into midair if they run off them fast enough.

Hill Top, like the other worlds, is littered with Chaos Orbs and Rings that the player can collect. These objects are aligned along the many paths in Hill Top, making them easy to find and collect. Hill Top's railroad tracks contain a lot of Chaos Crystals and Rings in particular. There are as well Sky Rings in Hill Top. They are mostly green in color and reward the player 1,000 Experience Points, although there are others in Hill Top in other colors and with higher rewards.

Notably, Hill Top separates itself from the other worlds in the game due to its size and less-open layout. Instead, it features numerous different pathways and routes for the player to travel along instead of simply zipping across the landscape. The world's railroad tracks in particular lead the player through the most important points in Hill Top. However, the player still has to be careful, as the railroads break off in some places. While this might lead the player to a beneficial item, the player usually cannot move fast enough to get to the other side of the abyss in those breaks without jumping. There is also an upper section accessible by moving gondolas. The player can as well fall into bottomless pits while traversing Hill Top, as this world has several chasms and lava pools for the player to fall into. Should the player fall into such pits though, the player suffers no consequences other than being forced to respawn at the starting point of Hill Top.

The portal to Hill Top Classic is located in the cave from which the large lava fall under the arching wall path originates. Inside the cave is a perilous obstacle course with small platforms featuring retracting spikes and gondolas passing through smaller lava falls and Gohlas that shoot flames, all of which can knock the player into the lava, forcing them to respawn at the Hill Top starting point. This obstacle course must be passed through every time the player wants to visit Hill Top Classic.

Overview[]

For a player to enter Hill Top, they must first have their character acquire all 6 Hill Top Gate Keys, this can be achieved by completing the quests and Time Trials in New Yoke City. Once all the keys have been acquired, the player can travel to Hill Top by entering the portals to in found in Green Hill and New Yoke City.

Upon arriving in Hill Top, the player will find a Fast Friend upgrading station, as well as Blaze the Cat's event, and 4 giant rings. One leading to Green Hill, one leading to New Yoke City, one leading to Speed Jungle, and the other leading to Neo Metal Sonic Boss Fight.

Red Star Rings and Music Notes are scattered across the level. Red Star Rings give the player 10 of them when found, and Music Notes unlock a song in the Music Player.

With the Reborn update, a new, larger version of Hill Top was designed and the original map was removed from the game. However, in the version 2.92 update, the original version was secretly re-added as "Hill Top Classic," the portal hidden in the current Hill Top at the back of a cave atop the large lava fall. The cave must be unlocked by completing Android Shadow Yellow's Quest, having a Team Mastery of 225 and paying 125,000,000 Rings.

  • Many elements of this rendition of Hill Top were seemingly inspired by the fan game; Sonic GT. These mainly include the rail track Grind Rails, which feature prominently in Sonic GTโ€™s version of Hill Top.
