Hei Hou (ヘイ・ホウ Hei hō?) is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a robot that was created by Dr. Robotnik, who used it during the second part of the Angel Island incident.
Appearance
Hei Hou is a robot that resembles the upper body of a human body. It has motors instead of legs and possesses black, sliver, and golden armor. It has round shoulders, white glove-like hands with four fingers, thin wrists, golden wrist and shoulder cuffs with studs on them, and two cylinders on its back as a jetpack. History
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles
In Sonic & Knuckles, and its lock-on version Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, Hei Hou attacked Sonic and Tails while the duo was in Mushroom Hill Zone. However, the robot was defeated by the heroes.
Later, a re-built Hei Hou would attack Knuckles in Mushroom Hill Zone. Like before though, it was destroyed by the echidna.

Sonic Jam (Game.com)
In Sonic Jam for Game.com, this boss is featured as one of the bosses in the Sonic & Knuckles game. It is extremely easy now as there is only one tree (to the right), and the boss itself is very slow and chops at a rate of about one time every thirty seconds. In addition, the boss was placed lower so it could be visible on the screen, making it possible to simply jump at it.

Thanks to its design, Hei Hou is capable of flight.

Hei Hou, from Sonic & Knuckles.
In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, Hei-Hou appeared on Angel Island during Dr. Robotnik's invasion of the island, but was destroyed by Sonic the Hedgehog. It was later rebuilt and used by Archimedes to test Knuckles the Echidna.
Battle
Hei Hou is the sub-boss of Mushroom Hill Zone in Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, as well as the first or fourteenth boss overall, respectively. In Sonic & Knuckles, it is battled by Sonic or Knuckles, while in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, it can also be battled with Tails either alone or as Sonic's parther.
Boss guide
Hei Hou uses an axe to chop down trees, sending the resulting chunks of wood flying towards the player. If fighting it as Sonic and/or Tails, it gets its axe jammed in the bottom piece of the tree it was chopping and struggles to pull it free, only to go flying backwards once it comes loose. If Knuckles is the one battling it, it will use a slightly different attack pattern where the wood chunks will bounce, and its head will be used to attack, flying off to hit Knuckles before returning to Hei Hou's body so it can move on to the next tree.

- The Meter Droid from Sonic Mania is based on Hei Hou.
