Sonic Adventure DX Hedgehog Hammer

Amy in Hedgehog Hammer, from Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut.

Ha ha ha ha! You're not going to escape from here! Let's see if you can clear this awesome game!

Dr. Robotnik, Sonic Adventure

Hedgehog Hammer[1][2] (ヘッジホッグハンマー[2] Hejjihoggu Hanmā?), also known as Whack-A-Sonic,[3] is a Sub Game that appears in Sonic Adventure, its enhanced port Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut and the 2010 remaster of the game. It is a Whack-A-Mole type of game found on the Egg Carrier, only accessible by Amy Rose.

Gameplay[]

Hedgehog Hammer is a game that plays like Whack-A-Mole. In both Adventure and Mission Mode, it can be accessed by going to the southeast of the Egg Carrier Hall. Its room consists of a round platform with eight holes, from which dolls randomly appear. Above is a holographic screen with the current highscore. The game starts when Amy jumps on the center of the platform. Using the Hammer Attack, the player must hit the dolls and score as many points as possible. Three different types of dolls will pop up, each being worth different points:

Character Points
Blue Sonic[1] (ソニック Sonikku?, lit. "Sonic") +100[1]
Yellow Sonic[1] (スーパーソニック Sūpā Sonikku?, lit. "Super Sonic") +500[1]
Robotnik[1] (エッグマン Egguman?, lit. "Eggman") -200[1]

Hedgehog Hammer automatically ends after its time is over. After that, a sliding "CONGRATULATIONS" with appear. The player can replay the game by standing on the center of the platform again.

In Adventure Mode, Amy is required to beat Dr. Robotnik's high score of 2000 points in order to escape the room, with the Warrior Feather being awarded as a prize for doing so. After the Egg Carrier crashes into the ocean, Amy can return to the room and win the Long Hammer by scoring 3000 points.

In order to win the two Emblems obtainable from this Sub Game, the player must play it in Trial Mode. The first Emblem is awarded by beating the initial high score, and the second one is awarded by beating the previous score.

Trivia[]

  • This is the only Sub Game exclusive to one character.
  • In the original version of Sonic Adventure, Dr. Robotnik's name was displayed as "Eggman". This was changed in Sonic Adventure International, in which the name shown became "Doctor Robotnik".
    • Also, in the original version of the game, the text displayed after winning the game for the first time was Engrish, reading "Fighters Warrior Get". This was corrected in Sonic Adventure International and later re-releases, where the text correctly reads "You Get the Warrior Feather".
  • The designs of the dolls, specially Dr. Robotnik's, resemble the original designs from before the release of Sonic Adventure.
  • Hedgehog Hammer has its own theme, though it only plays when the game is entered from Trial Mode. In other modes, it simply plays the music of the Egg Carrier.
