The Hedge Maze takes the form of green vines wrapping around each other, with five/four-petaled white, pink and violet flowers blossoming on them.
In gameplay, the Hedge Maze can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Spring Cream. As with most other Items, Metal Sonic can also use the Hedge Maze if he uses the Steal Item to steal it from the aforementioned user.
When Hedge Maze is used, plant pillars will be dropped some distance ahead of the user's current location on all the lanes. Up to three of these lanes (or none at all) in particular will receive plant pillars that are so tall that they cannot be jumped over. The rest of the lanes, on the other hand, will have plant sprouts that only extend slightly above ground level and can be jumped over. Regardless, colliding with or otherwise touching the plant pillars will result in the victim losing Rings. After colliding with a plant pillar, the victim will be surrounded by multicolored flowers for several seconds and will lose speed every time they switch lanes during this time. This effect goes through Shields, although a shield will still prevent the initial damage from the trap.
In order to avoid Hedge Maze, the player's only option is to jump over the short plant pillars that this Trap Item produces.
