Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric

While digging in the field, Hayward found a Power Glyph, but he had no idea what it was. Sometime later, Hayward saw Team Sonic fight Lyric, a sight that inspired him to join the resistance and defend the village from Lyric and Dr. Eggman. However, his parents would not let him, especially since their crops were infested with robotic pests which could not be allowed to destroy their crops so close to harvest.

A while later, Hayward met Team Sonic and told them about his dream and how his chores held him back. Fortunately, Team Sonic agreed to help him and got rid of the pests. Hayward thanked them for their help, psyched of now being able to join the resistance, and gave the team his Power Glyph in hopes that they could use it for something.

Personality

Hayward is a dreamer who constantly wants to go above and beyond to prove himself to others around him. Always looking to be a part of something bigger, something that makes a difference, he searches for a reason or way to help, just so he can show what he is able to do.[1] He especially holds a great admiration for Team Sonic due to how big a difference they make.

Trivia

  • The name "Hayward" is a pun of farming for hay.
  • Hayward is the first video game-exclusive character in the Sonic Boom franchise to appear in its comic series.
    • This contradicts an earlier mandate given to the writers of the comic series which prevents them from using characters from the video games.
  • Hayward's spines are very similar to that of a hedgehog's.
