The Hariisen[1] (ハリーセン[2] Harīsen?) is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, porcupinefish-based Badnik created by Dr. Eggman.

Appearance[]

Hariisen

The Hariisens resemble round, orange and white porcupinefishes with spikes around them. These Badniks also have the ability to float in a singular area as well.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Advance 3[]

In Sonic Advance 3, the Hariisens appear as enemies in the underwater areas of Twinkle Snow. In gameplay, they always float in one place. When the player approaches a Hariisen however, it will puff itself up, revealing spikes on its body and then fire said spikes in six directions. Once the Hariisen is spike-free, it will be vulnerable to the player's attacks. However, if left alone long enough, the Hariisen will regenerate its spikes. Upon their destruction, the Hariisen will release a Ring.

Other game appearances[]

Sonic Jump series[]

Sonic Jump[]

In Sonic Jump, the Hariisens appear as enemies. In this game, they only appear in Cosmic Zone and Bonus Zone. In gameplay, the Hariisens fly left and right. In order to destroy a Hariisen, the player must jump into it from below; touching a Hariisen while falling will cause Sonic to take damage.

Sonic Jump 2[]

In Sonic Jump 2, which serves as a remaster of its prequel, the Hariisens appear as enemies in the same location and behave in the same way as in their previous appearance.

Powers and abilities[]

The Hariisens are capable of levitation and can protrude spikes and shoot them from their bodies.

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series published by IDW Publishing, the Hariisens were among the many Badniks that attended Orbot and Cubot's Winter Jam reality show.[3]

Trivia[]

  • The Hariisen's name is derived from harisenbo in Japanese, meaning "porcupinefish".
