"Hard Times" is a song by the band The Jetzons which was rewritten for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 as the music for IceCap Zone.

The song was originally composed in 1981, but was unreleased until 2008 with the release of The Complete Jetzons. [1]

In 2020, the song was officially released on vinyl, limited to two-hundred and fifty copies. The album artwork is the background of IceCap Zone, the tracklist uses a Sonic font, and the vinyl itself is called the "Sonic Blue Virgin Vinyl".[2]

Lyrics[]

If I could have all the women in the world
I would take this time to leave
The pressures on and I'm not some kind of strong man
So take this thing from me
Don’t give it a second thought
I can see you've got better things to do
So just take your things and leave
Hard times (happiest days of my life)
Hard times gone by
Hard times (happiest days of my life)
Hard times gone by
Late at night with the darkness here around me
I'm drinking all alone
Nothing here but my medicine to guide me
Since I’ve been on my own
Well, you’ve forgotten now
Memories that continue to amaze me
Are all but over now
Hard times (happiest days of my life)
Hard times gone by
Hard times (happiest days of my life)
Hard times gone by
Hard times (happiest days of my life)
Hard times gone by
Hard times (happiest days of my life)
Hard times gone by

Trivia[]

  • For a long time, IceCap Zone's music was believed to have been inspired by Michael Jackson's "Who Is It" from the album Dangerous with similar chord progressions to "Smooth Criminal" from Bad, due to being one of songs in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 to have been composed by Michael Jackson's team, which Brad Buxer was part of. This was before it was discovered the connection with the song "Hard Times".
