The Hand Launcher[note 1] (マジックハンド[1][2] Majikku Hando?, lit. "Magic Hand"), also known as the Speed Hand catapult,[3] Speed Hand,[4] or glove on a stick,[5] is a gimmick that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a type of device that allows its user to reach full running speed.

Description[]

Hand Launchers are entirely white/light gray in color. They have a gray pole each that has a cartoonish hand-like object on its top. The hand in question notably only has four fingers. This pole is also attached to a surface on its bottom that has a Conveyor Belt on it.

In gameplay, Hand Launchers are hidden beneath the ground at first. However, if the playable character approaches them, their hands will rise from the ground. Once the playable character touches the hand, it will grab them and make them run on their Conveyor Belt, which will rise from the ground as well. During this, the player can jump to get free from the Hand Launcher. However, if they wait a few seconds, the hand will release the playable character, who will then be running forward at high speed. Because of this, Hand Launchers are typically found before corkscrews, loops, or related sections.
