The Hammer Slam is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Projectile Item used primarily to attack rivals.

The Hammer Slam's icon takes the appearance of Thorn Rose's hammer makes a smash of pink waves of energy, and pink circle outline surround the smash.

Overview[]

In gameplay, the Hammer Slam can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Thorn Rose. As with most other Items, Metal Sonic and Metal Sonic Mach 3.0 can also use the Hammer Slam if they use the Steal Item, or Fortune Teller Amy if she uses Lucky Draw or Wall of Cards to steal it from the aforementioned user.

Once obtained, the player can utilize the Hammer Slam by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the user slow down the speed and increase the speed of the user for a short amount of time. The duration of the Hammer Slam is shown by the decreasing gauge on top of this power-up's icon on the bottom of the HUD whenever the Hammer Slam is in effect. In addition, if the Hammer Slam limit duration reached, the user will deal damage to rivals if close enough to the user, causing them lose Rings and slow down momentarily. To avoid the Hammer Slam, the player must get to the lane which attack cannot reach.

The Hammer Slam can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 6, 12 and 18 respectively. For level 6 and 18, the user will more likely to obtain two of the Hammer Slam in one Item Box; and for level 12, the Hammer Slam will deal more damage.
