When performing Hammer Propeller Flying, Tails takes flight by twirling his twin tails around like rotary blades, thus creating a lift that lets him fly around in the air like a helicopter. At the same time, Tails wields his own personal version of the Piko Piko Hammer that he can use to attack foes.
In gameplay, Hammer Propeller Flying can only be used when Tails has Amy Rose as his partner. When used, this move allows Tails to fly through midair and attack enemies near him by swinging his Piko Piko Hammer. By comparison, the Hammer Propeller Flying lets Tails fly faster than the standard Propeller Flying technique. However, there is a limit for how long Tails can stay airborne; after flying non-stop for a while, Tails will become exhausted and slowly drift downward. To perform Hammer Propeller Flying in gameplay, the player must press during a jump. Also, by pressing while in flight, Tails will swing his Piko Piko Hammer.[1]
