The Hammer Egg Robot[1] is a mech that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a robot piloted by Dr. Eggman and Eggrobo during the Northstar Islands incident.
Description[]
Appearance[]
The Hammer Egg Robot is a mech that consists of two main parts, the lower part and the upper part. The lower part has a mainly gray color scheme, with red, yellow and black details, while the upper part has a red color scheme, with yellow and black details.
The head, located in the upper part, resembles Dr. Eggman's face, similar to other mechs like the Death Egg Robot. Inside the mech, Dr. Eggman/Eggrobo and the Egg Mobile are present, the latter connecting the two parts.
Features and abilities[]
In the first phase, the Hammer Egg Robot has the ability to walk, block the player from attacking, jumping and spinning. It can also attack using its sphere-shaped hands, by launching them into the ground. Although it is not used during the boss fight, the legs are also able to hover, as shown in the cutscene introducing the mech.
In the second phase, the boss replaces its regular arms with electric, spike arms, as well as using hovering to move instead of the legs, which were destroyed at the end of the previous phase. In Trip's version, the mech would rapidly dash forward.
Weaknesses[]
In the first phase, when unprotected by its arms, the upper body is vulnerable. It is also vulnerable to attacks in the lower part. Another weakness of the mech is to its own sphere-shaped hands, if thrown back at the boss when they are detached from it.
In the second phase, the upper body is still vulnerable, but much harder to hit, due to the mech's electric and spike-covered arms.
History[]
Sonic Superstars[]
In Sonic Superstars, Dr. Eggman would use the Hammer Egg Robot to fight Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy in Bridge Island Zone Act 2. However, the four would eventually destroy it.
Sometime later, Eggrobo would use a rebuilt version of the mech in order to take down Trip. However, it suffers a similar fate to the original, being destroyed after the fight.
Battle[]
The Hammer Egg Robot is the boss of Bridge Island Zone, as well the second boss overall in Sonic Superstars. It is fought by Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Trip.
Battle Guide[]
In the first phase, the mech would walk across the area, protecting its upper part using its arms. During this phase, the boss utilizes two attacks, with the first one consisting of jumping in the air, spinning, then stomping into the ground, while the second one has Dr. Eggman/Eggrobo fire its two sphere-shaped hands into the ground. In order to deal damage, the player will have to hit it, either by throwing back into the mech the aforementioned sphere-shaped hands while they are stuck in the ground or by directly attacking the body.
In the second phase, which is triggered after four hits (six hits in Trip's Story), the lower part and arms are blown up, with the remaining part of the mech fusing with electrified, spike-covered arms. In order to attack it, the player has to deal damage to the body. After two hits (three hits in Trip's Story), the boss is defeated. Exclusively to Trip's Story, in this phase, the boss will sometimes dash forward instead of only slowly hovering.

Trivia[]
- This boss's intro animation is similar to the Death Egg Robot in Sonic Generations.
- Curiously, the internal files of Sonic Superstars refer to this boss as "deathegg" and "death_egg", suggesting that it may have been named "Death Egg" during development.
