The Half Fish (半魚人, Hangyojin^?, lit. "Merman") is a creature that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a race of amphibian Animals used for raising Chao.

Game appearances

Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut

In Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, a Half Fish can be seen in the Black Market. It usually remains stationary, bobbing its head back and forth, but can occasionally be seen reading a book.

Sonic Adventure 2/Sonic Adventure 2: Battle

In Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, the Half Fish appear again as Animals used for raising Chao. In gameplay, Half Fish can alter the stats and appearance of a Chao. These Animals are either found inside the third Chao Container opened in an Action Stage, or hiding somewhere difficult in the Action Stages. When the Half Fish roam free, the player must touch them to pick them up. They are found in the following Action Stages:

Upon entering a Chao Garden with a Half Fish, it will leave the playable character and move around the garden. Should the player give a Half Fish to a Chao, the Chao will embrace it, changing its appearance and raising its stats according to the Half Fish's. The Half Fish will then disappear shortly after. Outside of that, a Half Fish can also be seen in the Black Market. It usually remains stationary, bobbing its head back and forth, but can occasionally be seen reading a book.
