Hacking Mission (Ouranos Island #2)

The Hacking Mission is a mission that appears in Sonic Frontiers. They are usually hosted in order to gain accesses to a Chaos Emerald Vault, and always consist of the player destroying the "program" with alternating shots.

Description[]

Hacking Missions take place presumably in Cyber Space, with the player controlling a tiny triangular shaped avatar that can swap between silver and black, with black or white alternating shots. The background is stark and greyish in colour with many moving elements, giving the illusion of something digital.

The player is pitted against a rotating, pentagonal-shaped device known as the "program", as well as smaller square-shaped devices that shoot mini projectiles that are either black or white.

Story[]

Before acquiring the Red Chaos Emerald, Sonic and Tails come across a trashed Death Egg Robot, and briefly speculate on what could have caused it is downfall, before Tails informs Sonic of an accesses panel he found that was still online. The player is then asked to, "Access the console to activate the Death Egg Robot". Doing so starts up the first hacking mission.

On Ouranos Island, a bridge is needed in order to attain the Green chaos emerald. After briefly speaking to Sage, she informs Sonic that he will be able to make the bridge by using the "starting device" to power the statues. After the cutscene, the mission becomes available, and the game prompts the player to, "Create a bridge to continue on".

Again on Ouranos Island, in order to gain the white Chaos Emerald, Sage tells Sonic that his power is needed in order to unlock the door to the giant pyramid-structure. She gestures to another white monitor with a red-chained lock. After the cutscene, the locks once again brake and the player gain access to the mission, being prompted to, "Open the Ancients' gate to continue".

Similarly, the final true ending of the Main Story (unlocked by being on hard mode) sees Sage piloting Supreme against the End in a similar fashion of the Hacking Missions, by dodging the black-and-white projectiles and countering shots. The fight against the End takes considerably loner than the mini games though.

Gameplay[]

Hacking Missions take part in a digital environment, (that may or may not be cyberspace) and have the player tring to destroy the "program" by firing Light or Dark Shots to counter those of the program. Multiple square shaped enemies will fire white or black projectiles, usually in groups or a specific pattern. Destroying the projectiles with the corresponding colour fills the "homing laser meter" and when it is full, a powerful golden blast can be released, which will eliminate any enemies and deal more damage to the program. Hitting projectiles with its opposite colour has little to no effect, and they may accidently hit the avatar. Taking too many hits results in a death and the secondary life spawns in. Two deaths results in restarting the mission.

Overview[]

Hacking Missions usually give the player access to something on the map that will help to obtain some Chaos Emeralds. For example:

  • The first mission enables the Death Egg Robot to clear a path in the ground for the player to obtain the red Chaos Emerald.
  • The second mission activates the statue and creates a bridge to access the mini island and the green Chaos Emerald.

The last mission unlocks the Ancients' door and enables the player to gain the white Chaos Emerald.
