The Ground Trap[1] (AKA the Ground Set in Japanese) is a mechanic that appears in Sonic Battle. It is a category of skill-based moves that the playable characters use to determine their Mine for Ground Attacks.

Description[]

Ground Traps are techniques that determine the Mine the character deploys for their Ground Attack. These moves involve the user placing a Mine on the Map that will detonate and deal damage to the opponent when they make contact with it. Each individual Ground Trap is performed in its own unique way, but they all inflict a launch effect upon connecting while temporarily blinding the victim with a white screen effect that gradually fades.

In order to use the Ground Trap in gameplay, the player must select it before a battle starts or during an intermission. Also, in addition to inflicting normal damage on opponents, the Ground Traps can be powered up further; when the Ichikoro Gauge is full, attacks from the Ground Trap category will be able to instantly knock out the opponent, unless the opponent blocks it or is immune to Ground Traps.

While all Ground Traps are the same in function, each one has its own strengths and weaknesses that are determined by two attributes: speed and power. A few even have different mechanics; some Ground Traps let the user deploy multiple Mines at once and others can deploy Mines that move around on their own. There are also those that can deploy invisible Mines.

To perform a character's Ground Trap in gameplay, the player has to press while on the ground.
