The Ground Power[1] is a mechanic that appears in Sonic Battle. It is a category of skill-based moves that the playable characters use to determine their Power-based Special Move for Ground Attacks.

Description

Ground Powers are techniques that determine the character's Power-based Special Move for Ground Attacks. These moves involve the user using an extra powerful attack or combo that deals exceptional damage to those up close. Each individual Ground Power is performed in its own unique way.

In order to use the Ground Power in gameplay, the player must select it before a battle starts or during an intermission. Also, in addition to inflicting normal damage on opponents, the Ground Powers can be powered up further; when the Ichikoro Gauge is full, attacks from the Ground Power category will be able to instantly knock out the opponent, unless the opponent blocks it or is immune to Ground Powers.

While all Ground Powers are the same in function, each one has its own strengths and weaknesses that are determined by two attributes: speed and power. A few even have different mechanics; the unlockable Combo-based Ground Powers start out with a series of rapid attacks that end with a finisher derived from another Skill, Chaos Burst lets the player hide from attacks for a while, the Sonic Drive lets the user fly across a certain area when used, Meltdown reduces the user's HP to a minimum when used, and other Ground Powers can send the opponent flying into the air.

To perform a character's Ground Power in gameplay, the player has to press Rgba while on the ground.
