The Green Hover (グリーン・ホバー,Gurīn hobā?), also known as the Hover form, is a transformation that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is the Color Power gained by absorbing a Green Wisp and its Hyper-go-on, which turns the user into a hovercraft.
When using the Green Hover, the user turns into a green hovercraft. In Sonic's case, his entire body turns into a large version of his own head with no facial features except for his eyes, which do not have pupils and are yellow, and his ears which do not have ear canals. Also, his three lower quills and the one on top have gained green-glowing rings around them on the ends.
Game appearances[]
Sonic Colors[]
The Green Hover made its first appearance in the Wii version of Sonic Colors, and later its remaster Sonic Colors: Ultimate. In this game, the Green Hover can first be used in Starlight Carnival Act 5. In gameplay, using the Green Hover allows the player to float around in midair, albeit slowly. However, to stay airborne and/or ascend as the Green Hover, the player has to keep pressing/holding down the hover button. As the Green Hover, the player is also able to perform the Ring Dash, which lets the player travel down midair trails of Rings at high speed. In addition, while transformed into the Green Hover, the player cannot lose a life due to damage, even if the player has no Rings at all, though the playable character can still lose Rings from damaging obstacles or long-ranged enemy attacks. Additionally, almost any enemy the Green Hover touches will be destroyed, except for the Spinner (Metal).
To use the Green Hover in gameplay, the player must possess a Green Wisp. If the player is in an area not suited for the Green Hover however, the Green Wisp will go dormant (which is illustrated by its on-screen icon sleeping), thus preventing the player from becoming the Green Hover. Once transformed into the Green Hover, the player's Wisp Gauge starts to deplete, and once it runs out, the playable character will revert back to normal. To extend its duration, the player has to collect more Green Wisps.
When using the Green Hover in gameplay, the player has the following controls:
In the 2 Player mode in Eggman's Sonic Simulator, two players are able to combine the Green Hover transformation with other Color Powers, by activating the Green Hover and the other Color Power at the same time when they are within a certain distance, to create a new Color Power:
Green Hover + Green Hover: Creates a beam of white light between the two player which can be used it to knockout enemies when they come in contact with it.
Green Hover + Yellow Drill: A Yellow Drill that can drill through air as well as it can in water, while attracting nearby Rings.
Sonic Lost World[]
In the Wii U version and PCversion of Sonic Lost World, the Green Hover makes a return. In this game, it is first used in Lava Mountain Zone 3. In gameplay, using the Green Hover allows the player to float around in midair, albeit slowly. In Sonic Forces: Speed Battle, the Green Hover is an Item Box power-up exclusive to Whisper. In this game, the Green Hover is a boost power-up that can be used to gain further speed. This power-up can also be improved by leveling up the playable character.
Powers and abilities[]
As the Green Hover, the user gains the power of flight, allowing them to fly leisurely through midair. The user is also able to perform the Ring Dash that allows them to travel along trails of Rings.
Weakness[]
The Green Hover's main weakness is that it can only be used for a few seconds and requires more Hyper-go-on from Green Wisps to be maintained, however, the Ring Dash may be used to extend how long the form can be used by however long the ring trail spans for, though the where the user goes is subject to where that ring trail leads to.

Urban Warfare[]
During their exploration of Eggperial City, Sonic used Whisper'sGreen Wisp to transform into Green Hover to survey the city. Thanks to the transformation, he was able to confirm to Lanolin that the city has grown and repaired itself since their last visit. Tangle then pleaded for Whisper to let her transform too, with the wolf saying they might later.[1]
