For the Sonic Blast boss of the similarly named Green Hill Zone, see Green Hill Zone boss (Sonic Blast). For the 16-bit version of the boss, see Egg Mobile-H.

The Green Hill Zone boss is a vehicle that appears in the Sega Master System and Sega Game Gear version of Sonic the Hedgehog. It was an Egg Mobile created by Dr. Robotnik that the doctor used to battle Sonic the Hedgehog.

Description

Appearance

The Green Hill Zone boss is a regular Egg Mobile. Oval in shape, it possesses its usual windshield, blue seat and wings on its sides. It also has yellow armor on top of the gray rockets on its rear and ventilation holes in the shape of stripes on its front. It also has the usual Egg Mobile's grey upper-half, black underside, yellow circle on its front, and yellow and black hazard stripes on the sides.

Powers and abilities

Robotnik's vehicle is capable of flight and can perform midair charges at high speed.

History

Sonic the Hedgehog (8-bit)

In the 8-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog, Dr. Robotnik used this vehicle to attack Sonic when he arrived at the end of Green Hill Zone. In spite of Robotnik's efforts though, his vehicle got destroyed by Sonic in the end.

Battle

The Green Hill Zone boss is the first boss of Sonic the hedgehog. The player fights it at the end of Green Hill Zone Act 3.

Boss guide

In Green Hill Zone Act 3, the player will arrive in a wide empty area at the end of the Act after climbing the mountain by running to the right and jumping over the incoming gaps. Robotnik will then arrive in his Egg Mobile from the right side of the boss arena, initiating the boss battle.

The boss fight with Robotnik in his Egg Mobile is relatively simple, though do not forget that Sonic will not have any Rings when facing this boss. Right from the start, Robotnik will hover above the arena three times, out of the player's reach. Robotnik will then slowly descend to the surface, which is the only time where the player can hit him and/or the Egg Mobile with the Spin Jump. Meanwhile, Robotnik will prepare to charge into the player, before flying quickly across the arena and off-screen. He will then repeat this pattern, albeit from the opposite direction each time, until the player defeats him.

In the Game Gear version, this boss fight is even easier, as Robotnik is left vulnerable to attacks at all times, even as he flies above the arena.

Once Robotnik has taken eight hits, he will be defeated and flee in his exploding Egg Mobile, allowing the player to open the metal cage and complete the Zone in doing so.
