The Great Desert Dark Egg Legion is a group that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It was a chapter of the Dark Egg Legion that existed on Mobius prior to the Super Genesis Wave. It was led by Grandmaster Beauregard Rabbot, and its membership included Matilda the Armadillo. As a result of its location, it primarily fought with the Sand-Blasters and their allies in Sand Blast City.

History

Formation

The members of this Legion chapter were once a horde of roboticized soldiers under Dr. Robotnik and set against Sand Blast City; however, like most of the robians, they were restored to their organic forms by the Bem without any knowledge of how. They tried to temporarily settle in Sand Blast City before setting out for their original homes, but they were met with suspicion and dislike from the Sand-Blasters who had defended the city from the mindless Robians in the past. The Sand-Blasters abused them and forced them out into the Badlands ("once a robian, always a Robian" being the main argument). In desperation, they allied with the Eggman Empire in order to gain an edge against their oppressors, undergoing Legionization and building a settlement in the Badlands. Since then, the Great Desert Dark Egg Legion maintained the Oil Ocean Refinery, while waging a war against the inhabitants of Sand Blast City for an undetermined period of time. (StH: #217)

Thicker than Water

Times got worse when Beauregard's niece, Bunnie D'Coolette, discovered them. "Uncle Beau" lovingly embraced her and told her about their dreadful history. She surprisingly agreed to help them take possession of the Oil Ocean Refinery saying that "she never was good friends with the Sand-Blasters anyway." The next day, Bunnie, Beauregard, and some legionnaires ventured to the Oil Ocean Refinery to claim it, only for them to run into Sonic the Hedgehog and the Sand-Blasters. Getting off on the wrong foot, Sonic and Bunnie dueled against each other while the others watched with hope of success. Realizing that the Dark Egg Legion isn't all bad, but that it's still an arment of the Eggman Empire, Sonic and Bunnie began to destroy the Oil Ocean Refinery. The Dark Egg Legion and Sand-Blasters raced in and fought to stop Sonic and Bunnie and claim the refinery for themselves. Both failing in the attempt, started to argue with Sonic and Bunnie. Beauregard yelled at Sonic saying that Eggman will make him pay dearly for losing the refinery, but Bunnie told him that Eggman will concentrate on Sonic and ignore the fact that he lost it. With that being said, Beauregard and Bunnie said their goodbyes and parted ways. (StH: #217, #218)

All for One

As the conflict went on, the Legion and the Sand-Blasters would occasionally exchange prisoners, though the incidents were tense at best. The Legion received an unpleasant surprise in the form of Mighty the Armadillo, who joined the Sand-Blasters under an assumed identity in order to investigate the Legion in relative safety. His super strength proved overwhelming to the Legion, and they were suspicious when Mighty arrived at their encampment offering himself up as a prisoner. After a brief altercation followed by a meeting with the Baron, Mighty was "imprisoned" by the Legion, who requested another prisoner exchange in order to get a number of their people back in exchange for the powerful Armadillo. They had no way of knowing, however, that the Sand-Blasters intended to turn the meeting into an ambush. A pitched battle resulted, but the Legion achieved a victory of sorts as Mighty as his teammates, the Chaotix, drove off the Sand-Blasters.(SU: #47, #48, #49)

Equipment

• Implants: All members of the Dark Egg Legion have parts of their bodies replaced with mechanical implants, increasing their strength and giving them new abilities. The extent of individual legionnaire cybernetics is currently unknown, but seems to vary between individuals.
• Saucers: Small aircrafts that typically carry two or three people.
• Tanks: The Great Desert Legion has a force of several tanks, which resemble those used by humans prior to Earth's transformation into Mobius.

Trivia

• Both of the named members of this Dark Egg Legion chapter are apparently related to two established heroes: Beauregard is Bunnie D'Coolette's uncle and Matilda is Mighty the Armadillo's sister.
