The Gold Pawns are humanoid robots based on Dr. Eggman. The Gold Pawn is primarily golden in color, with a round body and a dome-shaped head that come together in an egg-like shape. It also has blank magenta eyes, a sharp golden nose, a wide magenta-glowing panel for a mouth, and a black lower torso section.

In Sonic Runners, the Gold Pawns appear as enemies. They are also some of the most common enemies in the flying type characters' stages. In gameplay, the Gold Pawns are either stationary or run back and forth. They are also placed either separately or in groups.
The player can destroy the Gold Pawns with any move or offensive power-up in the playable characters' arsenal. When destroyed, a Gold Pawn will grant the player 300 points, which is three times the amount granted by a Egg Pawn. The Gold Pawns also contain Animals that are set loose when the Gold Pawns are destroyed. They are also featured as part of a few episodes' narrative, which features them being defeated by Team Sonic.
