Eggman built these pure gold gunners on a whim one day. They run away after popping out for a quick attack-beat them before they can for a nice treat!

— Description, Sonic Unleashed[1]

The Gold Aero-Cannon[1] (エアキャノン ゴールド[2] Ea Kyanon Gōrudo?, lit. "Air Cannon Gold") is an enemy that appears in Sonic Unleashed. They are a model of Badniks and a variant of the Aero-Cannon, made of pure gold, that Dr. Eggman built on a whim.[1] They serve as hovering gun turrets that can teleport.

Appearance[]

The Gold Aero-Cannons are relatively small robots. They have an orb-shaped torso with two small semicircles on the bottom functioning as feet, and a hemisphere attached on each side. Their head is a thick bar running along the top surface of their torso, and they have two green eyes and a small straight field of green light running across their face, resembling teeth. Sticking out from the chest and slightly from their back is a long single-barreled cannon. They are all golden yellow, green and silver in color.

The Gold Aero-Cannons are an extremely rare type of enemy in Sonic Unleashed and can only be encountered in the daytime Action Stages/Stages, such as in Arid Sands and Jungle Joyride. When destroyed, they give a large number of bonus points to the player.

In battle, the Gold Aero-Cannons attack by shooting fast and precise projectiles at the player. In the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version, they fire several energy shots at once, but on the Wii/PlayStation 2, they instead fire missiles at a rapid rate.

After taking their shots, the Gold Aero-Cannons teleport away as they reel from firing, but reappear less than a second later. When the player is trying to perform a Homing Attack on them, caution is advised since there is a good chance they can hit Sonic with their shots before he can hit them.

Powers and abilities[]

The Gold Aero-Cannons can levitate in mid-air on their own and teleport away from their location. Thanks to the cannon built into them, the Gold Aero-Cannons can fire highly powerful energy blasts at their opponents.
