Black Doom sent me to a scorching wasteland. Making my way through an unfamiliar and treacherous canyon, I managed to find the third Chaos Emerald. Now there are only four Emeralds to go, and I swear that I will find them all!

Shadow the Hedgehog, Shadow the Hedgehog

Glyphic Canyon is one of the second Stages in Shadow the Hedgehog. It can be reached by completing the Normal mission of Westopolis.

Description

Glyphic Canyon is a giant ruin set inside a massive canyon, as the name would imply. It apparently contains several temples belonging to the Black Arms, according to Doom's Eye.

Story

After obtaining two Chaos Emeralds in Westopolis on his own, Shadow is scolded by Black Doom for his disobedience, and is teleported to Glyphic Canyon using Chaos Control. In the meantime, the Commander learns that Shadow was in Westopolis with the Black Arms, and sends soldiers after him in order to kill him. Back in Glyphic Canyon, Shadow meets Knuckles the Echidna, who is trying to defeat the Black Arms in the area. He later finds Doom's Eye, who tells him that he needs to activate five Temple jewels in order to unleash the power of the Black Arms.

  • Dark: Shadow decides to team up with the Black Arms and activates the Temple jewels, obtaining the third Chaos Emerald at the end of his mission. In the meantime, at the White House, the President receives a phone call that informs him of a report from the Central Information Agency. According to the report, the United Federation's forces have managed to push the Black Arms out of Westopolis and suppress enemy forces in five other cities. The caller also reports that the CIA's mainframe has been compromised, which they suspect the Black Arms are behind. Responding to the call, the President informs them to tell the Commanding Generals that the United Federation will never surrender to terrorists. The President then takes a look at a picture of Sonic and Shadow on his desk and adds that mankind must now defend the peace the two hedgehogs created when they saved the earth, and that they must stand united against the Black Arms. Meanwhile, Shadow goes to Cryptic Castle.
  • Normal: Shadow ignores Knuckles and Doom's Eye and gets the third Chaos Emerald on his own. 1. The first Secret Key can be found to the right from where Knuckles appears, behind a pillar.
  2. After the first set of Jump Panels, the second Key can be found on the upper pathway to the left.
  3. From the third checkpoint, a breakable wall can be found on the left of the stairs leading to the temple; the Key is located behind it.
  4. After the sixth checkpoint, the player must take the Spring leading to the next part of the pathway, turn around and jump to the roof of the building. The Key is on top of it.
  5. In the area just before the Goal Ring, the fifth Key can be found to the left.

The Secret Door is found just past the fifth Save Point. Behind it is a Black Volt, which will take the player to the sixth Save Point via an alternate path. Along the way, the player will find Item Boxes and a Heat Barrier, along with several extra Black Hawks to serve as a helping hand if doing the Hero Mission.

Expert Mode

Glyphic Canyon's Expert Mode is much easier than the previous Stage, as the only thing that has been changed is the way to get across some gaps. There are a few more platforms and Light Dash opportunities. In the area where the wind automatically takes the player up, there is no longer any wind, meaning that the player has to make their jumps manually.
