The Glimmering Guard is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series
Description [ ] The Glimmering Guard's icon takes Unicorn Knight Cream's shield spinning around which forms the cyan sphere, surrounded by white sparkles with colorful outline (cyan, yellow, and pink). In gameplay, the Glimmering Guard becomes a slight pink energy sphere with the unicorn shield circles around the user.
Overview [ ] In gameplay, the Glimmering Guard can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Unicorn Knight Cream . As with most other Items, Metal Sonic and Metal Sonic Mach 3.0 can also use the Glimmering Guard if they use the Steal Item, or Fortune Teller Amy if she uses Lucky Draw or Wall of Cards to steal it from the aforementioned user.
Once obtained, the player can utilize the Glimmering Guard by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the Glimmering Guard will activate the shield to surround the user. The duration of the Glimmering Guard is shown by the decreasing gauge on top of this power-up icon on the bottom of the HUD whenever the Glimmering Guard is in effect. Also, while the Glimmering Guard is in effect, it will negate one instance of damage the user would otherwise receive during the race, although doing so will cause the Glimmering Guard to disappear, effectively ending this power-up prematurely. However, if the user hit any other power-up while the item is in effect, the user will fire two blue shots; one travels down the lane it was deployed on in front of the user while the other travels in the opposite direction on the same lane as the other shot. As both shots move ahead, they will dissipate if they travel too far. Rival characters hit one of those shots that will be damaged, which lose their Rings and slow down momentarily. To avoid the Glimmering Guard's shots, the player must either jump over it or step out of its lane.
The Glimmering Guard can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 4, 10 and 16 respectively. For each upgrade, the player will increase the damage dealt with the Glimmering Guard.
