The Giant Fake Chaos Emeralds[1] are objects that appear in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. They are giant spire version of an Emerald meant to bear similarities to a real Chaos Emerald, but it does not possess the same amount of power and was designed to sabotage machinery.
Description[]
The Giant Fake Chaos Emeralds are giant spire replicas of the green, red, blue, yellow, and turquoise Chaos Emerald. Its wavelength and properties are also identical to that of a real Chaos Emerald. One of the major differences between them is that the fake Emerald is less powerful than the real Chaos Emerald, although it still has Chaos Emerald energy in it.
History[]
Past[]
Following the end of the Metal Virus plague, Dr. Eggman focused on rebuilding his empire, which led to the creation of Eggperial City and the Giant Fake Chaos Emeralds spires.[2]
Urban Warfare[]
While Amy, Blaze, Silver, and Sonic held off an army of Badniks, Tails went to hook up the Miles Electric to the Eggtech connected to the crystal and found out that the giant crystals around the city are actually Giant Fake Chaos Emeralds. Tails said they are cheap replicas that have the same properties and wavelength, but are under-powered, yet more potent than other energy sources that Dr. Eggman uses. Sonic asked why they're so big, and Tails said it's to increase their power output and their size is at a great cost to the environment.
Sonic concluded they need to destroy the crystals to destroy the city and suggests using the hammer again, which Silver excitingly asked if he could do. Tails frantically told them that's a bad idea and Blaze agreed. Tails showed on his Miles Electric that the Emerald would blow up the city block and themselves, making the city devour more to rebuild itself. Sonic suggested destroying the city themselves, which Blaze thought wasn't possible. Tails showed the crystals power regional growth in the city, but they are all powered by the command tower.[1]
During a fight with Shadow Androids, Shadow tapped into the Giant Fake Chaos Emeralds to perform Chaos Control, saying their energy was distorted and a "pale substitute". However, the energy became too much for him and let out a beacon of Chaos Energy, causing more Fake Emeralds to grow around him.[3] Eggman stated Shadow's Chaos Control made the Fake Emeralds unstable, but as long as the safeguards were in place, it would help grow his city. Tails was be able to remove some of these safeguards and the Emeralds started growing rapidly. Meanwhile, the Fake Emeralds trapped Shadow and the energy from them was too much for Blaze and Rouge. Silver struggled to remove them, as they were growing almost faster than he could remove them. Silver managed to remove enough to get to Shadow.[4]
After some encouraging words, Shadow was freed and regained his control over the Chaos energy. He could now control the Fake Emeralds and used them to make a tower to get to the surface and to trap the central tower of the city. Once the tower was destroyed, all remaining safeguards were gone and the Fake Emeralds were about to explode. Shadow used Chaos Control to send them into the sky, leaving everyone in the city unharmed.[5]
