Genesis Portal

A Genesis Portal, from Sonic Universe #75.

The Genesis Portal is a phenomenon that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. They are doorways between dimensions created after the multiverse' collapse due to the effects of the Super Genesis Wave.

History

According to Professor Von Schlemmer, Genesis Portals are essentially shards of the previous multiverse, created when the Super Genesis Wave shattered the Prime Zone and destroyed the old multiverse. Their existence was eventually discovered by Silver the Hedgehog and Professor Von Schlemmer, and Silver eventually began traveling through time out to close the portals before they could bring further harm to time and space.[1]

One such portal released the Ifrit into Apotos, where Silver was forced to battle it alongside Sonic after it defeated a group of Dr. Eggman's Egg Swats. They managed to force it back through the portal and close it, but in the process Eggman became aware of the portals and began scheming as to how he could take advantage of them.[1]

Metal Sonic later used such a portal in an effort to escape Sonic and other New Freedom Fighters with a Chaos Emerald, and the two rivals ran up running into Silver in the Burning Ruin Zone. Both heroic Hedgehogs worked together to trap Metal Sonic on the other side of a portal that they then closed, and Sonic took another back to his own world. Silver, meanwhile, followed the last remaining portal to an unidentified snowy area.[2]
