History[]
Past[]

The effects of Gene Bombs on Earth, from Sonic the Hedgehog #124.
Many Gene Bombs were used during the Xorda's attack on Earth, which resulted in the devolution of the Humans into the four-fingered Overlander species, although they were expected to devolve humans much further back. However, it also rapidly accelerated the evolution of the entire animal kingdom, blending their DNA with that of humans to form the Mobian species. Additionally, the Gene Bombs mixed with various beryl deposits beneath the planet's surface, resulting in an environmental cataclysm known in Echidna theology as the first Day of Fury.[2][3][4] This latter fact was cast into doubt however when the source of this information- a 12,000 year old robot named Isaac—was revealed to have most of his data corrupted and/or erroneous when he was hacked into by Dr. Finitevus.
