The Gateway is an object that appears in the Sonic Prime television series. They are portals to the Shatterspaces, located in the Void.
Description[]
The Gateways, like everything else inside the Shatterverse, were created after the Paradox Prism incident. The following are the known Gateways:
- New Yoke City - Red Portal
- Boscage Maze - Green Portal
- The Grim - Purple Portal (Because of the Nine himself accelerating the decaying process, it no longer has a portal or a Gateway, and all that was left was the Citadel)
- No Place - Blue Portal
- Ghost Hill - Yellow Portal (When it became the Gateway for Green Hill, it turned grey, then light green.[1])
Due to Sonic carrying the Paradox Prism's energy, he is capable of traveling through the Gateways. Shadow tried to enter them, but failed; the only one he could enter was the Gateway to Ghost Hill. Shadow can also go through a decaying tear in a Gateway.[2] The Chaos Council used the Shards' energy to enter different gateways. They would later go on to use "Operation: Chaos Terraformation" to transform the Boscage Maze and No Place into homes for each member, creating and using portals which directly led into each of the two Shatterspaces, which caused the Shatterverse to start decaying.[3]
Upon Nine using the rebuilt Paradox Prism to transform The Grim into his paradise, the decaying process accelerated, resulting in the Ghost Hill Gateway and Ghost Hill itself to be destroyed. Each Gateway would then have parts of it detached from it and have tears all around the their sides, tears that allowed direct access to/from the Void and in/out of a Shatterspace, allowing anyone to enter/exit a Shatterspace without the need for Prism Energy and/or kicking up speed. Sonic and Shadow would use this knowledge to escape Ghost Hill before it disintegrated, and they would go on to use a tear to enter The Grim and confront Nine.[4]
Trivia[]
- The Gateways match the color of the Prism Shard that are related to their Shatterspace.
- The shape of the Gateway’s portal is also shaped like that Shatterspace’s Shard.
- The Ghost Hill Gateway is the only one to go through the most significant changes.
- The Ghost Hill Gateway is the only one whose destruction is shown on-screen.[5]
- The Ghost Hill Gateway is also the only one whose color changed, from yellow to grey, and then, finally, green (a lighter green than the green on the Boscage Maze's Gateway), showing that it became the Gateway to Green Hill.[1]
- It disappeared from the Void after Sonic and Shadow entered it, implying that the Ghost/Green Hill Gateway wasn't meant to be there forever, and that the Gateway was probably created to preserve Sonic and Shadow's home/prime reality, so that, if Nine had rebuilt the Paradox Prism in Ghost of a Chance, he, Sonic, Shadow, and the Chaos Council would've been in Green Hill before the Gateway vanished from the Void.[1]
- Due to the concept art designs for the Shards, the portal on the Gateway to the Boscage Maze has the same shape as the yellow Shard, and the portal on the Gateway to Ghost Hill has the same shape as the green Shard. However, when the Ghost Hill Gateway became the Gateway to Green Hill, the color changed, giving the correct color for the correctly-shaped Shard.
