The GUN Military Truck is a vehicle that appears in Sonic Adventure 2, its remake Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and the console/PC version of Sonic Generations. It is a military truck belonging to G.U.N. which was sent after Sonic the Hedgehog when he escaped from the military's captivity after being accused of stealing a Chaos Emerald.

The truck appears during gameplay in the Stages where it serves as a moving and dangerous obstacle that will pursue Sonic relentlessly for a period of time.

Description

Appearance

The GUN Military Truck resembles a colossal Mack Superliner and/or GMC General, being as wide as a two-way street and as tall as a small building. It is predominantly grey and black with a heavily armored exterior, has the "GUN" emblem written on the front and possesses an equally large semi-trailer with the symbol of G.U.N. on the sides. In Sonic Generations, the GUN Military Truck was given a slight update in design, possessing more refined details and armor, as well as an extra set of seats with its own windshield set just above the main one, but otherwise remained much the same.

Features and abilities

SonicPC4

The GUN Military Truck is quite a powerful and durable vehicle, capable of running over cars and entire apartments buildings without slowing down. It is also very fast despite its size, being able to keep up with Sonic's running speed and can make extremely sharp hairpin turns at top speed. It is later shown to have additional features, such as three massive circular saws on extendable arms protruding from the top of its cab, rocket boosters that allow it to fly, and storage compartments for deploying various GUN robots.

Game appearances

Sonic Adventure 2

The GUN Military Truck's debut appearance was in Sonic Adventure 2 and later its remake, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. It can only be encountered in City Escape. Here, it was sent to recapture Sonic after he escaped from the military's custody.

The GUN Military Truck will appear behind Sonic after passing the last Point Marker in City Escape. From there, the GUN Military Truck will chase Sonic down through a section of the Stage where the camera angle has been turned 180 degrees. During the chase, the truck will slow if Sonic slows down too, though it will not stop pursuing him. Touching the GUN Military Truck will damage the player, and the truck itself in indestructible, meaning the player has to keep avoiding it until they reach the end of the chase where the GUN Military Truck will crash into a brick overpass. In Hard Mode for City Escape, the GUN Military Truck will move faster and is less forgiving. It is also notably infamous for destroying/plowing over several of the parked cars in its path.

Sonic Generations

The GUN Military Truck made a reappearance in the console/PC version of Sonic Generations as a part of the remade version of City Escape. It appears in both Act 1 and Act 2 of the Stage where it serves as an obstacle to the player. Like in Sonic Adventure 2, the truck is indestructible and will damage the player if they touch it.

In City Escape Act 1, the GUN Military Truck continues its role of perusing Classic Sonic, but varies so from two different angles. Here, it will either pursue the player through different sections or move towards the player from somewhere in the background at certain points in the Act, where it can both damage the player and destroy platforms, thus eliminating nearby shortcuts that the player can take. This can be avoided if the player uses the platforms before the truck destroys them. At the end of the Act, the GUN Military Truck will again pursue Classic Sonic on platforms, which serve like laddars for the player, and try to mow them down frequently, only to crash into a bridge support beam at the Goal Plate.

In City Escape Act 2, the GUN Military Truck is encountered in the way as it was in Sonic Adventure 2. However, the truck is faster and more determined about pursuing Modern Sonic here. The player encounters it near the end of the Act and has to outrun it, with the camera angle having been turned 180 degrees during the chase. However, in addition to pursuing Modern Sonic, the GUN Military Truck will also use three saw-blades attached on its cab to attack from afar, which the player can avoid by moving to the side while the truck is preparing them. Near the end of the chasing section, it will reveal its rocket boosters to charge after Modern Sonic on a vertical wall. It is ultimately defeated after it crashes into a large building, causing it to explode before it gets the chance of touching him.

The GUN Military Truck makes a small appearance in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-off comic series published by Archie Comics as a part of the comics' adaption of Sonic Adventure 2. It has only appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog #98, where Sonic ran into the GUN Military Truck and had to flee from it after escaping from Paladin Team Sigma-Alpha 2.

Trivia

  • The emblem on the vehicle is a texture that reads "GUN Military Truck".
  • The way the GUN Military Truck tries to kill the player is quite similar to how an Orca tries to kill Sonic in Emerald Coast in Sonic Adventure.
    • Coincidentally, Sonic is chased by something in both Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 in the first stage of both games.
  • The GUN Military Truck can be seen amongst the floating debris during the battle with the Time Eater in the console/PC version of Sonic Generations.
  • It is possible the GUN Military Truck was originally a soldier transportation unit, as it deploys robots for Sonic to fight in City Escape Act 1 in Sonic Generations.
  • It is possible to outrun the GUN Military Truck in City Escape Act 1 in Sonic Generations by using the Spin Dash quickly.
