I've made this site discussion to bring to attention an issue that has been rather troubling over these previous months: the Wikia crime known as "edit-warring". This has happened frequently as of late and I would like nothing more than for it to be lessened. Here are a couple of suggestions:
- Edit warring isn't listed in our rules, but is often considered a sub-rule of "Assume good faith", which is listed. Not everyone is going to know the exact meaning behind this, or everything it entails, so perhaps it can be explained in further detail in a page of its own (like we have with "Don't feed the trolls".) It should be made more explicit that edit-warring is an offense, and the reason not to do it should be clearly explained.
- Wikipedia has a bright-line rule called the three-revert rule, or 3RR, read that article for more details. The basic idea behind this is that users should not make more than three revisions to the same edit in a space of 24 hours. I was thinking perhaps we could have our own 3RR, or any limit to revisions, and perhaps it doesn't have to be as strictly followed, and used merely as a recommendation.

I wouldn't mind having a sub-page made that helps explain to Users essential information about edit warring. However, I'm leaning towards opposition for your second suggestion, because I think that anyone who has enough time on their hands can check individual edits made by Users and determine their actual quality, regardless of how many are made. You think it's overkill, huh? I did say that the limit doesn't have to be 3, it can be more if you prefer. The first bullet point is trying to lower the risk of edit-warring, so it happens less often, while the second bullet point is trying to lower the severity; the level of disruption caused by an edit war should one occur. I also said that it didn't have to be as strictly followed, i.e. if a user undoes the same edit more than thrice, there is little punishment. - Hello? I didn't say we needed one per se, it was only a suggestion. The first point is definitely necessary, the second point is really only an extra that might help even more (it's not overkill though, I don't get it!). Referring to my message above, lowering the risk is more vital than lowering the severity at any rate, which is why I'm not voting on 3RR.
