Flip Platforms[1] are Spring-type gimmicks, that made appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II. These platforms can only be found floating on water sections of Sylvania Castle Zone Act 2.
Description
Flip Platforms are shown to be regular platforms that have a circular shape below the panel. Below part is detailed with red edges with a gold star in the middle of a blue circle, similar to regular Springs.
In Sylvania Castle Zone Act 2, Flip Platforms are gimmicks floating on water pools. As the water rises on the Zone, Flip Platforms keep floating on the water. In sections with roofs, the player has to avoid getting crushed in-between rising Flip Platform and roof. The player is able to stand on it normally much like regular platforms. By using Sonic's Homing Attack causes the platform to flip upside down to reveal Spring attachment. Jumping on Spring attachment launches them to reach higher sections. The player can also target and dash into Spring part of Flip Platform with Homing Attack to dash Sonic forward.
