Flame Purgación (フレイムプルガシオン Fureimu Purugashion?) is a Soul Surge technique used by Sir Percival and Blaze the Cat (Multiplayer only) in Sonic and the Black Knight. When performing this technique, the user can either become a tornado of fire that can plow down any obstacle, launch a powerful kick, or accelerate to top speed.

Description[]

In order to perform Flame Purgación in gameplay, the user's Soul Gauge must contain some energy. To activate the move in gameplay, the player must press B, and to cancel the move while being used, the player must press B again. Using this Soul Surge deceases the energy in the Soul Gauge, and if it runs out of energy, the move will end.

Flame Purgación can be executed in three ways, depending on the player's actions during the move; either to attack enemies, launch a kick to bump enemies or to advance quicker through the stages (Adventure Mode only).

Attack[]

If Flame Purgación is performed as a means of offense, the user will briefly charge up the attack, with small rings of energy emitting from the user's feet. The user will then stand up straight while holding her sword close to her body and the blade pointing straight up, before the user starts spinning around while slightly hovering above the ground. Due to the pyrokinesis abilities possessed by the users of the Flame Purgación, the user begins erupting flames from her body while spinning, thus turning herself into a tornado of fire. While in this state, the user can move around at high speed and mow down anything in her path.

To perform this variant of Flame Purgación in gameplay, the player must activate this Soul Surge within the attack range of enemies. When doing so, the player then has to flick the Wii Remote to initiate the fire tornado. While performing this move, the player can control the playable character's direction and momentum during the attack with the control stick. Also, during the attack, the playable character is virtually invulnerable; any lesser enemies or obstacles that the playable character comes into contact with are instantly destroyed or receive massive damage, all incoming attacks are automatically countered, and the player does not take damage from touching hazardous obstacles. This move can only be performed while the user is standing on the ground.

When Sir Percival has the Joyeuse equipped, her Flame Purgación creates a bigger and stronger fire tornado when performed.

Kick[]

If Flame Purgación is performed as a mean of launching a kick at opponents, Percival will briefly charge up the attack, with small rings of energy emitting from her feet. Percival will then jump forward and launch an upward kick at the chosen opponent while doing a backflip in midair.

To perform this variant of Flame Purgación in gameplay, the player must activate this Soul Surge within the attack range of enemies. When doing so, the player will automatically target any interactable object  in front of the playable character. To strike the target, the player then have to swing the Nunchuck remote. This attack momentarily stuns enemies and can trigger reactions in certain objects, but it deals very little damage to enemies.

Speed Boost[]

If Flame Purgación is used to give Percival an increase in speed, Percival will briefly charge up the move, with small rings of energy emitting from her feet. She will then accelerate to beyond her top speed in a split-second with a high-speed dash, akin to Speed Break from Sonic and the Secret Rings.

To perform this variant of Flame Purgación in gameplay, the player must activate this Soul Surge when there are no enemies in range. For then to initiate the speed boost, the player has to swing the Wii Remote, and Percival will take off at extreme speeds. This allows the player to get through the stages quicker and pass through most obstacles before they can react to Percival's presence. While moving at these speeds, however, the player's controls becomes slightly more difficult. Also, if Percival encounters an enemy while using her Soul Surge as a speed boost, she will automatically switch to the attack variant of it.

Trivia[]

  • The attack version of the Flame Purgación is very similar to Blaze's Burst Dash and Spinning Claw techniques.
  • Unlike most other Soul Surges in Sonic and the Black Knight, the Flame Purgación does not need to be aimed and will always score Perfect Hits when it makes contact with enemies.
