Fishing Spots[1] (釣り場[2] Tsuriba?) are locations consisting of the fishing minigame in Sonic Frontiers. Taking place inside Cyber Space with Big the Cat hosting the minigame, each Fishing Spot can be accessed via Purple Portals found on the Starfall Islands.
Gameplay[]
The Fishing Spot is a minigame where the player can fish thanks to Big the Cat. It can be accessed via a Purple Portal in the Open Zone areas.[3] All of the maps except Rhea Island have at least one Fishing Spot: Kronos Island has one in the south-eastern tip of the larger landmass; both Ares Island and Chaos Island have one on a smaller island in the south-western corner of their respective maps; while Ouranos Island has one in south-eastern tip and another one in the south-west. Like with normal Portals, the player can instantly teleport to a Purple Portal after they have completed all of the island's Challenges.
After entering a Purple Portal, Sonic will be greeted by Big and the player is then given the following options:
- Go Fish!: Here the player will be given the opportunity to fish at the cost of a certain amount of Purple Coins which increases depending on the island: Kronos Island requires one, Ares Island two, Chaos Island four, and Ouranos Island eight. All types of stuff can be found here, from real-world fishes and trash, to treasure and even elements from the Sonic series. Each item gives the player a reward, usually in the form of Treasure Tokens.[4] The number of tokens awarded depends on the item that has been fished and increases depending on the island. Each island also has certain exclusive objects.
- When the player picks this option, they will be given a spare rod by Big. Sonic will then have to choose an area of a small pond with fishes to cast the line on by pressing , though there is virtually no difference between picking an area over another one. Once a fish is caught, a red, thick ripple appears with a smaller, white ripple that increases in size. Once the white ripple overlaps the red one, the player has to press to lift the rod up and claim the caught item.[5] If they succeed, they will be given a random item. If not, they will have to try again. The amount and size of red ripples and the speed of the white ripples varies depending on the island and the rarity of the item caught.
- View Fish-o-pedia: Every item that has been fished is chronicled within the "Fish-o-pedia" (サカナ図鑑 Sakana Zukan?, lit. "Fish Field Guide"), an in-game encyclopedia that contains every item collected by the player. It also includes a separate sub-section called "Voice Logs", which allows to listen to the Egg Memos that have been purchased.

- On Kronos Island, the color of the blank is yellow, with the guides and tip being white.
