The Fish-One is an enemy that appears in Sonic and the Black Knight. They are a type of the Knights of the Underworld and a part of the Fish-One variant which are tasked with scouting and monitoring enemies. They specialize in petrifying their foes with energy spheres.

Concept and creation[]

According to developers notes, the Fish-Ones were designed to look like sea creatures.[1]

Appearance[]

The Fish-Ones, as their name implies, resemble large normal fish. Most of their skin is colored dark grey while their underbellies are in a shade of dark purple. They possess wing-like pelvic fins, a pointy dorsal fin and a glowing red orb instead of a tail fin. Additionally, they have glowing white medieval markings running across their body. On their head sections, they have a metal visor with a single eye behind them.

Overview[]

The white Fish-Ones are a rare type of the Fish-Ones and can only be encountered in a few Missions in Knight's Passage.

In most cases, the Fish-Ones attack by flying stationary in one place and firing energy spheres at the playable character. If these bombs hits, the playable character will be petrified and cause an instant defeat. Blocking the energy bombs with Guard will negate their effect however. Also, equipable items such as Stone Broach, Stone Protection and Petrification Immunity give a certain degree of resistance to the energy bombs. If not using their energy bombs, they will resort to flying straight in the playable character, causing damage.

Like most other Knights of the Underworld, the Fish-Ones can be defeated with a single sword slash.

Powers and abilities[]

The Fish-Ones are able to teleport to different locations by emerging from black voids. They are also capable of flight through midair by using their flippers.

As their specialty , the Fish-Ones can shoot special white energy spheres from their eye which will instantly petrify those making contact with them.

Trivia[]

  • The Fish-Ones' ability to petrify the playable character is similar to the Gargoyle Djinns' ability in Sonic and the Secret Rings. However, unlike the Fish-Ones, the player can be petrified without being defeated and break free by shaking the Wii Remote, either indicating superiority of The Fish-Ones' petrification or forgetfullness of the developers.
