Appearance

Despite the Badnik's name, Fireworm resembles more caterpillar than a worm. It has five segments with pair of spikes placed on lower sides of each segment and hatches that split flames. The Badnik's head segment has pair of eyes and spikes placed both upper and lower side.

Game appearances

Sonic & Knuckles

In Sonic & Knuckles and lock-on expansion Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, Fireworm is encountered in tunnel sections of Lava Reef Zone. Usually found either in singular or in groups, Fireworm bursts out of the tunnel wall and start floating back and forth, as turning left, it descends lower and turning back right, makes it rise higher. While doing this, its four segments fire small flames, which along with lower placed spikes, can damage the player.

The player has to use a Spin Jump on its head segment to defeat the Badnik. However, Fireworm is one of Badnik models, that has the distinction to regenerate after being destroyed if the player wanders away and off-screen from its spawning point.

Sonic Rivals

In Sonic Rivals, Fireworm appears as an collectible card.
