The Fire Boost[1] (ファイアーブースト[2] Faiā Būsuto?) is a move that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is one of Blaze the Cat's signature techniques, where Blaze turns herself into a fiery projectile with her pyrokinetic abilities. It is the equivalent of Sonic the Hedgehog's Super Boost.

Description[]

When performing the Fire Boost, Blaze uses her pyrokinesis to envelop herself in a large fireball and launch herself forward at incredible speeds rivaling the Super Boost as a highly destructive projectile, without virtually any acceleration delay. While using this move, Blaze is able to barge straight through obstacles at staggering speeds without slowing down.

In gameplay, the Fire Boost is a technique that not only allows the player to run at vastly increased speeds for as long as the move is active, but also to damage and/or destroy enemies and breakable obstacles by simply running into them during the Fire Boost, all without taking damage or slowing down. Also, while the player is unable to activate the Fire Boost in midair, the move will still stay active whenever Blaze jumps or drops down from a ledge during the Fire Boost. Finally, the Fire Boost enables the player to hydroplane over the surface of a body of water, which normal running cannot achieve; this makes the Fire Boost a virtual move for crossing large pools of water.

While Blaze is nearly invulnerable while using the Fire Boost in gameplay, she can still take damage from running into indestructible hazards, like spikes or get crushed. The Fire Boost will similarly get canceled out if the player runs into unbreakable obstacles (like walls) or utilizes certain gimmicks. Accompanying the Fire Boost in gameplay is the Tension Gauge. This game mechanic contains the energy needed to maintain the Fire Boost; as long as there is energy in the Tension Gauge, the Fire Boost can be performed. However, the Tension Gauge depletes whenever the Fire Boost is used, and should it empty completely, the Fire Boost becomes unusable. However, the Tension Gauge can be recharged through various means.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Rush series[]

Sonic Rush[]

The Fire Boost first appeared in Sonic Rush. In this game, it is one of Blaze the Cat's actions. In gameplay, the player can both crouch and twirl during the Fire Boost. This is useful when going downhill, as it allows for even greater speeds. The super-high-speeds of the Fire Boost are also necessary to avoid death in several places during Sonic Rush, Also, if the Tension Gauge is charged to maximum capacity, the player will have unlimited usage of the Fire Boost for a short time. To perform the Fire Boost in gameplay, the player must press Snnwiidsxbuttondisco/Snnwiidsybuttondisco while Blaze is standing on the ground and there is energy in the Tension Gauge. The player can hold Snnwiidsxbuttondisco/Snnwiidsybuttondisco to Fire Boost continuously.

Curiously, If Blaze keeps on boosting for too long, she appears to dash ahead and outside of her Fire Boost's fireball.

Sonic Rush Adventure[]

In Sonic Rush Adventure, the Fire Boost is once more an action exclusive to Blaze the Cat. In gameplay, the Fire Boost works exactly like it did in Sonic Rush: the player can crouch and twirl during a Fire Boost and has unlimited Fire Boost when the Tension Gauge is at maximum capacity. To perform the Fire Boost in gameplay, the player must press Snnwiidsybuttondisco while Blaze is standing on the ground and there is energy in the Tension Gauge. The player can hold Snnwiidsybuttondisco to Fire Boost continuously.
