The Lead Sneakers[1] (スピードダウン[2][3],Supīdo Daun?, lit. "Speed Down") is a power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. They temporarily decrease the speed of its user after being collected.
Lead Sneakers are found inside of bubbles which float around the Competition Mode's Zones. Here, they are depicted as gray shoes with white straps and socks.
Overview[]
In Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and the lock-on game Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Lead Sneakers are one of the power-ups exclusive to the Competition Mode. If the player grabs this item, it has the opposite effect of the Power Sneakers, causing the player to move slower for ten seconds. During that time, it is still possible to pick up the Power Sneakers or any other item.
The Lead Sneakers stunt the player's jumping distance and make it harder to build momentum to get through loop than with normal speed, so it is recommended to avoid this power-up.

In Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (8-bit), an unused monitor sprite in the game's coding features grey sneakers, which could possibly have had the same effect as the Slow-Down Shoes.
