Azure Lake (アジューレイク[1] Ajū Reiku?) is a Zone that appears in the Competition mode of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and the lock-on game Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and the first Zone in Grand Prix mode.
Description[]
Azure Lake is an ancient ruins-themed Zone. Taking place at the water's edge of the namesake lake, the background features a grand landscape of forest and rocky mountains that are pristinely reflected on the water's clear surface. All around, the track is overgrown with plant life, and the skies are blue-colored. Azure Lake also has purple-colored landmasses and light-colored trees.
Gameplay[]
In this Zone, there are deep mud-pits which function much like those in Marble Garden Zone. Items in Azure Lake also float above the mud-pits. Sinking to bottom of the mud-pit makes the playable character(s) return to the starting point in the Zone.
The only obstacle in Azure Lake is a white switch which makes a red Spring that blocks the way between two loops and launches the player backwards. It disappears after few seconds after being activated though. The switch itself is located on a small hill. If an opponent hits the switch, it may require that the player backtracks a bit in order to proceed.
Overview[]
Azure Lake in itself is a small Zone which has two loops at the start. Behind the ramp part there is also a mud pit. The player then has to run over the light-colored tree and end up at the starting point.

Archie Comics[]
In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, Azure Lake Zone (known as the Azure Lake Oasis) was a body of water in the Sandopolis Desert, where the Dingo Regime regrouped in after being exiled by the fourth Enerjak.
After the Super Genesis Wave re-wrote history, Azure Lake Zone became a Zone on Angel Island.
Trivia[]
- Azure Lake is also the name for one of the six major fjord-like lakes at Wells Gray Provincial Park located in British Columbia, Canada.
- Sky Chase Zone of Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure reuses the background music of Azure Lake.
