Tomb Raider[]

Synopsis[]

Sonic—dressed for adventure with a backpack, jacket, bundle of rope, and fedora—looks down upon the Great Rainforest and spies his objective: the lost Temple of Shazamazon. He admires the rare view of untouched wilderness for a moment before heading towards the temple. As he travels, he thinks of how Nate Morgan agreed to help Mobotropolis transition to Power Ring energy and how the Winged Victory's Power Ring is low on power. Knowing that their ticket home lay inside, Sonic enters the temple.

Traps like wall-mounted machine guns and lava pits are triggered as Sonic explores the ancient structure, but he easily makes his way past each one. Meanwhile, a mysterious satellite comes online, locates a target on the surface of Mobius, and sends an activation signal. The signal reaches the temple, where a group of apparently decorative statues are revealed to be robians in disguise. Sonic finds the Ring of Acorns deep within the ruins, which he carefully replaces with the plane's burnt out Power Ring.

Sonic congratulates himself for his easy victory, but soon realizes the temple is home to a giant snake Mutate created during a Forgotten War. The creature attacks, but Sonic skillfully evades it and manages to tie it up in a giant knot. Sonic lets his guard down once again and heads for the temple exit, but the tied up snake begins rolling after him like a massive bowling ball. Seeing the reactivated robians blocking his escape route ahead, Sonic burrows through the floor to escape, causing the Mutate to crash into the robians.

Emerging outside, Sonic finds himself surrounded by yet more Robians. Elsewhere, Tails asks Nate what was in the temple that he swapped for the Ring of Acorns long ago. Nate explains that the temple formerly housed a Super Emerald, which he used to create the massive cache of Power Rings that Naugus attempted to claim in the Southern Tundra. Sonic arrives and tosses Tails the ring to power the plane, and his urgency is revealed to be caused by the pack of Robians chasing him. Sonic hops aboard, only to spot several small snakes in his seat, whom he promptly throws out. He then asks Nate why they aren't moving faster, and Nate responds that he needs to make a wish. Sonic wishes that their adventure was over and the plane goes rocketing home.

Tales Of The Freedom Fighters: Lupe and the Wolf Pack Part 1: Shadows In The Dark[]

Synopsis[]

In Mobotropolis, Sally Acorn approaches Lupe Wolf in the latter's tent, having heard that Lupe and her Wolf Pack are leaving the city. Sally asks whether or not they can be convinced to stay, but Lupe asserts that she wishes to return to her family. Noting the recent arrival of Leeta and Lyco, she explains that other Wolves must be lost as well and is eager to reunite with them. She apologetically explains that they joined up with the Knothole Freedom Fighters to fight Dr. Robotnik and nothing more.

At Reynard's behest, the group leaves to search for the other wolves while Sally and Bunnie make plans for Sonic's surprise birthday party. On the road, Diablo voices his surprise that anyone would choose to live in a polluted dump like Mobotropolis. Lupe explains that the citizens' memories of happy times, much like her memories of Lobo and their cubs, makes it their home. Lupe reminisces on how she led a portion of he pack into battle in the Great War while Lobo and others sought shelter for the pack's cubs. She then thinks back to how they met the Freedom Fighters and formed their alliance. Lupe puts her memories aside and refocuses herself on searching for home with moral support from Canus spurring her along.

The group's journey brings them to the Great River, which they don't remember crossing on their previous trek from the Great Canyon. Inflating a raft that they brought along, the group begins its crossing, only for a storm to erupt. Pondering the strange weather that has recently afflicted Mobius, they make their best effort to reach the other side of the river, where an ominous looking city awaits them.

Trivia[]

  • This the first issue in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series with the tagline "The World's Most Way Past Cool Comic!" on the cover page. This tagline would be featured on the cover of each issue of Sonic the Hedgehog until Sonic the Hedgehog #118. It would later return for Sonic the Hedgehog #150-#235.
    • This tagline is a play on the tagline used on the Fantastic Four comics, "The World's Greatest Comic Magazine!"
  • On the cover above the "Sonic the Hedgehog" logo is a partially obscured image of Dr. Robotnik's forehead. This might be a hint towards the looming threat of Robo-Robotnik v2.0.
  • On the cover and partially obscured by the "Sonic the Hedgehog" logo is the logo for the Dreamcast, which had just been revealed to the public at the time of this issue's publication.
