Fang the Sniper is a boss fought on multiple occasions in Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble. He is encountered at the end of each Special Stage in the game, where his objective is to keep Sonic the Hedgehog and Miles "Tails" Prower from getting away with the Chaos Emeralds that he has stolen.[1] He is noticeable for being the first (and only) boss in the Sonic the Hedgehog series to be fought within a Special Stage.

First Special Stage[]

Fang is encountered for the first time in the first Special Stage. The player fights him after reaching the end of said Special Stage.

First Special Stage (Sonic Superstars- Fang's Big Break)

First Special Stage boss, from Sonic Superstars: Fang's Big Break.

This encounter is more of a cutscene rather than a boss battle. When Sonic or Tails arrives in the arena, they will find Fang resting atop a ledge, right next to a Switch. Upon waking up, Fang bounces onto the Switch with his tail, and he proceeds to laugh at the playable character. However, Fang's trap backfires when a column of fire erupts under him, causing Fang to panic and run off. Once Fang is gone, the player is free to claim the blue Chaos Emerald from its pedestal at the far right of the room without a fight.

Second Special Stage[]

Fang is encountered for the second time in the second Special Stage. The player fights him after clearing said Special Stage.

Second Special Stage (Sonic Superstars- Fang's Big Break)

Second Special Stage boss, from Sonic Superstars: Fang's Big Break.

After Sonic or Tails are warped to the boss arena in the second Special Stage, Fang enters the arena on his Marvelous Queen, which has been equipped with a pogo spring. However, all Fang does while riding his airbike is bouncing back and forth between both ends of the screen. In addition, he will be open to attacks from the player all the time. As such, all the player has to focus on is to keep attacking Fang and his airbike with the Spin Jump while avoiding getting jumped on.

After sixteen hits, the airbike will blow to smithereens and Fang will be forced to flee. Once Fang is gone, the player is free to take the red Chaos Emerald from its pedestal at the far right of the room.

Third Special Stage[]

Fang is encountered for the third time in the third Special Stage. The player fights him after reaching the end of said Special Stage.

Boss guide[]

After Sonic or Tails arrive at the end of the third Special Stage, Fang will enter the arena on his airbike again. However, for this boss battle, Fang has gotten rid of the pogo spring attachment for his airbike and focuses instead on flying across the room on his airbike and swooping into the playable character. However, he will be open to attacks at all times. As such, the player must focus on attacking Fang with the Spin Jump when he comes down to attack them.

After just three hits, the airbike will start to blow up, forcing Fang to retreat on it while he still can. Once Fang is gone, the player is free to collect the yellow Chaos Emerald from its pedestal at the far right of the room.

Fourth Special Stage[]

Fang is encountered for the fourth time in the fourth Special Stage. The player fights him after clearing said Special Stage.

Boss guide[]

Fourth Special Stage (Sonic Superstars- Fang's Big Break)

Fourth Special Stage boss, from Sonic Superstars: Fang's Big Break.

After Sonic or Tails are warped to the boss arena in the fourth Special Stage, Fang the Sniper will appear to taunt the playable character before running off the screen. He will then return on his flying airbike, which is now loaded with a large missile. After situating himself above the center of the boss arena, Fang will detach his aribike's missile and fire it across the room. This missile will fly across the screen repeatedly, going from one side to the other while Fang sits on his airbike and laughs. In this situation, the player has to jump over the missile every time it flies across the screen. The player also has the option to attack Fang's Marvelous Queen. However, no matter how many times the player hits it, it will not make any difference in the battle.

After Fang's missile has flown across the screen six times, it will go off-course and head right into the rear of Fang's airbike, destroying it. Fang will then fall to the ground and retreat. Once Fang is gone, the player is free to take the gray Chaos Emerald from its pedestal at the far right of the room.

Fifth Special Stage[]

Fang is encountered for the fifth time in the fifth Special Stage. The player fights him after reaching the end of said Special Stage.

Boss guide[]

Fifth Special Stage (Sonic Superstars- Fang's Big Break)

Fifth Special Stage boss, from Sonic Superstars: Fang's Big Break.

After Sonic or Tails arrive at the end of the fifth Special Stage, Fang will enter the boss arena on his flying Marvelous Queen again. This time though, his Marvelous Queen has a drill attachment equipped on the bottom. During the battle, Fang will fly around at the stop of the screen while mirroring the playable character's vertical movements wherever they go. After some time though, Fang will laugh and rev up his drill before slamming his drill into the ground. As Fang revs up the drill and comes down though, he will stop mirroring the player's movement, thus allowing them to get away from Fang's attack. Although the player is able to hit Fang with the Spin Jump while he is down, it will not have any impact on the battle. As such, the player's only option is to keep avoiding Fang's attacks.

When Fang's airbike impacts the ground for the fourth time, it will become stuck to the ground in the process, leaving Fang as a sitting duck to the player' attacks. When this happens, the player has to Spin Jump repeatedly on Fang in order to push him into the ground. After Fang has been hit by seven bounces, he will be buried completely, and the player will have defeated him. With Fang gone, the player is free to retrieve the orange Chaos Emerald from its pedestal at the far right of the room.
