C'mon, squirt, let's see what you're made of. Forget those rivet-brains you've seen. I'm Spike and I'm gonna stick it to ya!

— Spike, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (16-bit)

Spike is a character that appears in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series. He is a bounty hunter Badnik created by Dr. Ivo Robotnik.

Appearance[]

Spike sprite

Spike is a yellow/golden humanoid robot. He has a few buttons on his torso and a pointed spike on his head. His feet are also short and orange. In the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series, he also wears green gloves.

History[]

TV series[]

Past[]

In the recent past, Dr. Robotnik gathered many of his old bounty hunter Badniks, including Spike. The doctor told them that he wanted them to catch Sonic, and if they did, he would give them one billion Mobiums. Immediately afterward, all the Badniks headed out in an attempt to catch the hedgehog when he revealed himself.[1]

Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine[]

In the 16-bit version and 8-bit version of Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Dr. Robotnik assembled many of his old bounty hunter Badniks, including Spike, and told them to kidnap the Beans that inhabited Beanville so he could turn them into robot slaves using his Mean Bean-Steaming Machine. Later, Spike was the ninth Badnik the player battled and defeated.

Personality[]

Spike is a very violent robot, who carries out his leader's orders without question. As a bounty hunter, he also loves money, and will do whatever he can in order to earn tons of Mobiums.[1] He appears to also consider himself superior to most of his peers, as he calls the opponents before him "rivet-brains".

Battle[]

Spike is the ninth boss in the 16-bit version and 8-bit version of Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.

Boss guide[]

Like with the other bosses, the battle against Spike takes place in two "dungeons" on each side, the left one being from the player and the right one from Spike.[2] To defeat Spike, the player has to fill his dungeon to the point where he is unable to drop any more beans. This can be done by dropping Refugee Beans into his dungeon, though Spike himself can fill his own dungeon by accident.

During the battle, Spike will be very aggressive and focuses on clearing beans quickly over creating combos. As a result, large combos are necessary against Spike, otherwise he will simply recover very quickly. Additionally, beans are falling at a very fast rate.

The player loses when their dungeon is full of beans. After that, they are sent to a Continue screen and given the option to play again. If they win, however, the game will lead to the next boss, Sir Ffuzzy-Logik.

Trivia[]

  • In this battle, Spike has the same AI as Zoh Daimaoh from Puyo Puyo, the game on which Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine was based.
    • Unlike Zoh Daimaoh, however, Spike's Beans do not shake his board when they are dropped; this special effect is only possessed by Frankly and Dragon Breath in Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.
