Zone 6 is an electronic Zone created by Dr. Eggman. Various traps, such as floors where electricity flow and turrets that shoot bullets, await Sonic.

— Description, Sonic 3D Blast[1]

Gene Gadget Zone is the sixth Zone of Sonic 3D Blast. As with the other Zones in this game, Gene Gadget consists of two standard Acts followed by a third Act containing only the boss fight.

Description[]

Seemingly the power plant of Dr. Robotnik's base, this Zone features many mechanical gadgets including tubes, electrical conduits, cables, fuses, and round flasks containing an unknown yellow liquid. The machines are seemingly floating in a black abyss, similiar to The Final Fight. In the Sega Saturn version, the ground has a metallic, factory floor pattern to it.

Story[]

After destroying Robotnik's machine in Volcano Valley Zone, Sonic reaches the Doctor at his stronghold, Gene Gadget Zone.

Gameplay[]

Gene Gadget Zone is a fraction of Dr. Robotnik's base on Flicky Island. In Acts 1 and 2, Sonic must free captured Flickies from inside Badniks, depositing five of the birds into a Goal Ring to progress between sections of the level (usually three per Act). In this Zone, eight red Flickies are trapped in Octopus Badniks, eleven green Flickies are trapped in Mouse Badniks and six purple Flickies are trapped in Fish Badniks.

Getting around the Zone involves large elevators and industrial fans that turn on conveniently as soon as Sonic steps on them. Electrified floors are also a problem here, but can be avoided with the Electric Barrier, which is less abundant than the Flame Barrier in Volcano Valley Zone. Also found within the Zone are spinning turrets that fire bullets at Sonic whenever he gets close to them.

Overview[]

Act 1[]

Act 2[]

Act 3[]

Sonic starts off on a Conveyor Belt surrounded by spikes. Dr. Robotnik soon arrives, and the Conveyor Belt activates (see Boss Below). This Act only has eight rings total; four stacks of two rings, one ring on top of the other. All located near a dangerous row of spikes.

Boss[]

Main article: Gene Gadget Zone boss

The boss of Gene Gadget Zone

Dr. Robotnik floats his Egg Mobile right above a conveyor belt and lets pattern-placed mines do his dirty work. Sonic must avoid the mines, as he cannot wait at the end of the belt for safety, since there are spikes back there. When Robotnik decides to swoop down and fire a brace of missiles at Sonic, Sonic can jump on him. Once this boss has been dealt enough hits, Sonic wins.

Trivia[]

  • Tails and Knuckles do not appear at this point of the game anymore. The player cannot try for the Chaos Emeralds, and no bonuses can be collected from Knuckles and Tails, and those bonuses are not even present at the end of Act tally.
  • This is the only stage where the Goal Ring gates blocking access to the next area will harm Sonic.
  • This is the first Zone where the Sonic Medals do not appear, meaning that the player can no longer collect ten of them for Continues.
