Cave Canem,[2] also known as Cavem Canus,[1] or Dingo City,[1] is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It was the main Dingo city on Angel Island.

Description[]

In its original appearance, Cave Canem consisted of several futuristic buildings adorned with banners and paintings, while in its rebuilt appearance, Cave Canem bears a more militaristic and technological design, being surrounded by a circular wall, with several flaming pillars and a silver spire known as the "Dark Fortress" being situated at its center.[3][4]

History[]

Past[]

Originally a city on the Floating Island at war with Echidnaopolis, Cave Canem and all its inhabitants was sent to a parallel Zone by the Hyper Zone Projector for protection from the radioactive dust caused by several nuclear missiles the Dingo Regime had launched.[3]

Lost Paradise[]

Hundreds of years later, the effects of Hyper Zone Projector were reversed by the Ultimate Annihilator, returning all the dingoes in Cave Canem to the Prime Zone, but destroying Cave Canem in the process.[3]

Angel Island Takeover[]

Dingo City

Cave Canem rebuilt, from Sonic the Hedgehog #141.

After Echidnaopolis was taken over by the forged alliance between the Eggman Empire and the Dingo Regime made by Kage Von Stryker, Cave Canem was rebuilt over top of its ruins. The rebuilt city featured numerous concentration camps where echidnas were enslaved and forced to endure grueling labor and torture, and, in many cases, death. Upon learning of the takeover, and his father's imprisonment, Knuckles set out to Cave Canem with Sonic and the Chaotix to rescue the echidnas and stop the takeover. After saving the echidnas, the Freedom Fighters and the Chaotix left the war-torn Cave Canem while the evacuees were transported to Albion.[4][5][6][7]

Enerjak: Reborn[]

Cave Canum was later visited by the fourth Enerjak, who banished its dingo inhabitants to the Sandopolis Desert, and tore both Kage Von Stryker and the city apart, atom-by-atom.[1]

Trivia[]

  • Cave Canem translates to "beware of the dog" in Latin, referencing its Dingo inhabitants.
