The Ferron is an enemý that appears in Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball. It is a Badnik model, presumably created by Dr. Robotnik.

Overview

The Ferrons exclusively appear in Lava Powerhouse in Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball. In the 8-bit version of the same game, however, they also appear in Toxic Pools. In the locations that the Ferrons appear, they are usually set in narrow openings of upper pathways, blocking the player's routes. They will not move from their position, unless they are destroyed. Some of Ferrons also hover around the pinball arena as well.

An orange-colored type of Ferron only appear in the room of Robo-Boiler. Despite the color scheme, they have the same pattern as blue Ferrons, who fly around in a linear pattern below The Roboboiler, trying to block the player's path to the boss.

To destroy a Ferron, the player has to hit it while Sonic is curled into a ball by launching him with a Flipper, which will in turn free the animal from inside it. In 8-bit version of the game, destroying a Ferron rewards the player with 35,000 points. Once a Ferron is destroyed though, another one will appear a couple of seconds later to replace it.

Physical Appearance

The Ferrons have humanoid-shaped bodies with round torsos and a bulky build. They wear a smooth bodysuit with boots, red joint on the arms, and gloves. They also seemingly wear helmets on their heads that have an open cutout in front of their eyes, which only reveal darkness. They have small jetpacks on their backs and each carry a long, white machete in their hands.

The Ferrons come in two different color schemes. The most frequent ones are red, blue and gray helmets, white the second and less frequent ones are red, orange and yellow.

The Ferrons possess a build-in jetback on their back which lets them fly through mid-air or just hover in one place.

Ferrons in Archie Comics.

Ferrons made small appearance in Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog #6 which features a loose story adaptation based on Sonic the Hedgehog Spinnball. They were created by Doctor Robotnik to halt Sonic the Hedgehog's progression through the Veg-O-Fortress. Despite outnumbering Sonic, they were defeated when he outwitted them and caused them to crash into each other, destroying them.
