Fearless: Year of Shadow,[1] also known as simply Year of Shadow, is a campaign launched by Sega in April 2024 to celebrate Shadow the Hedgehog. The campaign involves the increased involvement of Shadow within the Sonic the Hedgehog series throughout the year of 2024.
The campaign was announced on 9 April 2024, with an announcement video being released on the Sonic the Hedgehog official Twitter.[2]
In 2024, we're bringing Shadow into the light with a new fan celebration campaign – Fearless: Year of Shadow. While we ran with our successful Fast. Friends. Forever. program last year, our new annual campaign this year celebrates what it means to be Fearless, and embracing your inner Shadow: BREAK BARRIERS BE UNAFRAID BE AT YOUR BEST AND DO IT ALL WITH A POWERFUL CONFIDENCE. Following the success of the Fast. Friends. Forever. campaign in 2023, Sega launched their second, annual event on 9 April 2024 with this event having a focus on Shadow the Hedgehog. The event aims to bring together fans of the Sonic the Hedgehog series through the theme of being "fearless" and being "unafraid" in the face of adversity. In accordance with the year focusing on Shadow, several "Shadow themed" events and media have been planned, including the release of the Sonic Generations remaster; Sonic X Shadow Generations in the Fall, and the debut of Shadow within the cinematic universe in late December.
Much like Fast. Friends. Forever., a website was set up for the campaign that provides information on the upcoming events such as the next location for the physical version of the Dark Rider or the new Lego sets. The website also provides information on the Dark Rider itself including its size and related facts. It also lists the games planned to include Shadow content throughout the year. Shadow, Rouge, Omega, Dr. Eggman, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy all receive bios on the website which reuse their artwork and summaries created for Fast. Friends. Forever. the previous year.
Sonic and Shadow themed Sno Cups at Bahama Buck's, featuring a surprise character spoon (either Sonic, Shadow, Amy, Tails or Knuckles) and a limited edition collector's cup.
Shadow and Sonic themed pins and acrylics made by Pintrill for distribution exclusively at Anime expo 2024.[5]
Three Shadow pins based on the 'chibi' artstyle were also made available at GamesCom 2024.
