Fast travel

Once all Challenges are completed and the entire island map is revealed, fast travel between Portals will become available. Fast travel can be accessed by changing the map filter in the upper right corner of the screen.

Fast travel (ファストトラベル, Fasuto toraberu^?) is a gameplay mechanic in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Using it allows its user to travel instantaneously between previously discovered locations in one of Starfall Islands without need to traverse the distance in real time. Doing this requires of using the Open Zone Map menu after certain requirements are fulfilled.

Description

In Sonic Frontiers, the fast travel mechanic can be obtained in two ways for different location icons in each Open Zone Map. The first method involves completing all Challenges in the Open Zone field, as a result of which the entire Open Zone Map is revealed to the player with the fast travel mechanic becoming accessible to all Portals and Purple Portals seen in the Map menu. The second method consists of catching either Elder Koco's scroll or Hermit Koco's scroll during the Fishing Spot minigame. After exiting the Fishing Spot, the fast travel mechanic becomes available for Map locations of either Elder Koco, Hermit Koco or both.

In order to use the fast travel, the player has to enter the Map menu and choose a separate "Fast travel" filter option to view only Map icons for Portals, Purple Portals, Elder or Hermit Koco by pressing / // / // /. After that, the player can then move the Map Cursor to one of filtered Map icons and then press // to use the fast travel mechanic. Sonic will be next seen transported to said location in the Open Zone field. The player has to repeat one of two methods in each one of four Starfall Islands to gain access to it. Because of the lack of Portals, Elder or Hermit Koco in the Map, Rhea Island does not contain the fast travel mechanic.

Trivia

• If the player gains the fast travel mechanic via obtaining Elder Koco's scroll or Hermit Koco's scroll without completing all Challenges in the Open Zone field, only certain map icons of Elder Koco or Hermit Koco are visible in pieces of the Map that are already revealed.
